I really want to get rid of my spoiler on my 96 SE because I hate spoilers and I think the Max is much cleaner without a spoiler. How much do you think a shop would charge to fill the holes and paint after the spoiler is removed?

It will cost around $200 to remove the spoiler then they need to fill the holes and sand the whole trunk lid, then they will match the paint. If you really hate spoilers you will need to dish out some coin for that.
I have never met anyone who hates spoilers.

You may find in the end
You'll be better off finding a GXE or GLE without a spoiler in a matching paint on http://www.copartfinder.com or from another wrecking yard and save the headache and money.

I don't like spoilers at all. It's the 90s and 00s version of "fins". They are strictly for looks and serve absolutely no purpose on a fwd car plus they mess p the lines.

$200 wouldn't be bad. I'm gonna get an estimate from my autobody shop.

Instead of filling the holes and painting...
Why not try to find a GXE or GLE owner that likes spoilers.
Then just swap the hoods (of course trying to match the color). Even if you have to repaint because the colosrs mismatch, at least you didn't have to fill the holes. Also you get the chance to take their 3rd brake light instead of having to buy one (since yours in in the spoiler and they won't need their deck mounted one.)

Anybody find that the Maxima's rather plain rear area necessitates the spoiler? I put one on because I hated the flat boring look, and haven't thought once about taking it back off. The 5Gens look ok without the spoiler though.

Thinking about it Dave,
you can prolly take care of it free. Find someone on here that wants a spoiler but doesn't have one, in a matching color and year, and do an even trade. I do know what you mean. They don't serve a purpose but for looks, although in the end I broke down and got one installed.

I talked to my autobody shop and I got a rough estimate of ~$300 to do all the work (removal, prep, fill, paint). I've put out the word in the local area that I'm looking to trade straight up, but no one's replied. My next choice is to check copartfinder.com, however I think it will be close to $300 to $400 for a painted trunk.

How much could I get for a black 4th gen spoiler? $100?

Around $100 -$150 but shipping will ba a killer
Seriously, just see if there is anyone on here with a GXE or GLE in black that wants a spoiler and at if they want to trade trunk lids. I'm sure you could do a free swap, otherwise, I'sd say charge $100, and since it's already installed, whoever buys it will be saving money on installation charges. Again, the only killer will be shipping unless its someone local.

Where are you located at? I'd be willing to do a free swap I have no spoiler and my car is super black.

I'm in the Chicagoland area, IL.

Email me if your not in the area if you'd like.
Or if you're goin to sell your spoiler seperately.

Thanks

Vampire-

I live in Kansas City. I'd be willing to meet you in St. Louis is you want to do the swap OR I'll sell you the spoiler for $100 firm (perfect condition). My Max is a super black 96 SE.

Swapping the trunks might be a little hassle because we would have to swap trunk taillights because mine are smoked out and we would have to swap out locks. Otherwise, it should be an easy swap. I'll check my Chiltons manual tonight to see how easy it is to swap out locks. BTW, my emblems are removed but I do have them if you want them.

What kind of condition is your trunk in? Mine's about as perfect as you can get for a 96 (no dents, scratches). Like I said, I'll trade straight up if we swap.
