How long do Y pipes last?

I remember some time ago a lot of people were having the flex section collapsing on their Y pipe. Is this a problem that will happen to everyone sooner or later or were those pipes defective?

stock or aftermarket? My stock lasted 130,xxx before the flex busted. Aftermarket ones should come with some sort of warranty like warpseed does. more info on there site

those were typical results of cattman's 1 generation y pipe. cattman offered to ship a replacement flex that was lined and longer than the original one. ive got a gen. 1 on mine with no flex problems for about a year and a half. i did have some hissing but was able to cure it with header wrap.

Does header wrap cause ss 304 y-pipes to rust?

Which part of the y-pipe actually makes the bees sound? I get it when I accelerate in a gear and let go around 4k I get this nasty sound.

I would really like to know if this is true. I don't want my wrapped y-pipe to rust through.

I was told that it doesnt rust but gets roten because dirt gets stuck under the header wrap and it eats through.

Dirt will eat through the metal, but not hot exhaust gas. That is strange. What if you clean it really good and wrap it really tight?

not sure how aftermarket y-pipes supposed to last but most companies warranty between 3-7 years. In most cases, people wont have their car that long so no one really worries about it. And yes, the flex section i believe is what causes the bees in a can sound.

So can I just wrap that part or do I need to wrap the whole pipe?

Just the flex section + a couple inches on either side just to be safe
