How to manually eject cassette tape??

OK, so I put a Discman car adapter cassette in my Bose system today, and it's stuck in there. The deck makes some kinda strange noise while it's in there (almost like it's fast fwding or rewinding the tape), and when I hit the eject button, it either does nothing, or it shuts the whole deck off.

How do I manually eject the tape? Or can I even?

Try stickin something in there to pull it out...it happened to me once and I used a small screwdriver to move the tape side to side...after a little playing around I finally got it out without hurting my head unit.

That happened to me too when I first got the car. Just use your fingers and push the tape around (up, down, side to side) and keep hitting eject, it'll come out sooner or later.

Next time hit the TAPE button to stop it and it'll come out without any problems. I don't use the EJECT button anymore.

hit eject and grab cassette while using hemostats. those are awesome. you know what those are, don't you? used in the surgery room and for roach clips.

keep hittin eject, and pull on the wire that would connect the tape to the line out port on whatever external audio you're using. should work.

Whoa! It's probably been at least 4 years since I used a cassette tape for anything.

I tried that a little, but I was afraid I'd break the tape/cord. I want to return it to the place I bought it from (I got an extra set from work just to see if it was my cassette, so if I screw up this tape I'm out $15)

lcf - yeah, me too... but i just bought this car and can't get a CD player in it until Thanksgiving, so I tried to make due...

lemme ask you this, while stuck in the unit, does it function properly as a cassette adapter? just tryin to figure out why you need to take it out...if it works, then just live with it until you get the new head unit

Sorry, probly should've clarified that... No, it doesn't work properly. It seems to be stuck in rewind (or fast fwd, I'm not sure which, the lights don't work). One of my friends has a 92 SE, and his does the same thing - only tries to rewind tapes.
In any case, I need the cassette out because 1) it doesn't work, and 2) I need to return the tape w/the car kit to the place I bought it from because I have no need for it if the deck doesn't work...

87mustang,

have you been reading the posts? remove the tape surgically with hemostats. do you understand? the procedure is not a big deal. it won't even hurt.

it seems like you are making a mountain out of a molehill.
