o2 sensor bung repair
o2 sensor bung repair
FYI, I just repaired the rear bank o2 sensor bung in my budget Ypipe. I didn't use anti-sieze on the 02 when I installed the Y 6mo ago, and when I removed the o2 last week to replace the o2 it was siezed on the thread and stripped all the threads out of the o2 bung.
The repair was to remove the Y and smear JB-Weld in the destroyed threads, then after 24h I used my dremel to round out the jbweld so it was at the same level as the top of the threads (the few threads that remained). Then I used an 18mm spark plug tap to tap new threads into the bung.
It was difficult to get the tap to start biting straight, but the extra time taken to make sure it the tap was lined up paid off.
The new o2 was installed (using antisieze!) and fired it up. No leaks - repair was 100%.
