I scammed radio shack into giving me my money back for the switch and **** that burned up. I got a switch that is made for cars and rated at 25 amps. This shouldnt have any problems. I mounted the switch in one of the little coin holders on the center console. It is very inconspicuous and still easy to reach. Sometimes using it sets of the MIL, sometimes it doesnt. What I'll do is figure out what the MIL code is for. This should give an idea of just what this "mod" affects. Then I will do some experiments to see just what sequence of events (using it or not using it in a certain order) sets off the MIL.

If anyone wants to go ahead and try it on theirs real quick and get the code and its meaning, I would appreciate it. I wont have a chance to do it till later in the afternoon.

OK. I got the code from the ECU. It was 1205 wich is listed as "Line Pressure S/V"

What the hell is that? Can someone with the service manual explain it to me?

The dropping resistor (as the Chiltons manual calls it) is between the A/T control unit and the Line Pressure Solenoid Valve.

I'm guessing that the solenoid valve controls the hydraulic line pressure in the transmission. With no signal from the A/T control unit, it appears that the line pressure goes to maximum.

The Chilton manual only has 4 or 5 pages on the auto tranny, and most of those are removal and bolt torque. This is when I wished I had a factory manual.

As an interesting side note, I just got my TransGo kit deliverd today. As I was reviewing their very crappy instructions, I saw this in the description of what this kit does "PREVENTS CLUTCH DRUM BLOWOUT AND PLANET FAILURES CAUSED BY RUNAWAY LINE PRESSURE."
