Question -breaking in clutch and also fluid level
Question -breaking in clutch and also fluid level
ok so its been about 500 miles since I converted to 5speed and the fluid in the master cyl was at the full mark first day it was converted, now after 500miles the fluid went to the minimum level line, is that normal? I checkef for leaks and no leak to be found so the only conclusion is that the clutch wore down some from breaking in so the fluid level went down to compensate. Am I right or is there something going on? car drives fine, no fluid leaking detected.
ok I went back out and ran my finger under the master cyl and my finger was coated with fluid. guess it came form the fitting. I tightened it, well see how it looks a month from now.
I had my tranny rebuilt like 2-3 months ago... a couple of weeks ago, my clutch wouldn't respond. I ended up finding the clutch resevoir empty. I don't see any leaks either... i dunno where the fluid went.
Well... actually, pop the hood and look on top of the tranny. Do you see any fluid there? I remember i saw some on it... just realized it.

nope I made shure all the fittings were not leaking and everythin was dry. what I found was that under the master cyl housing was fluid so the only palce I see that it would be leaking there was that fitting that leads to that long squigly hose so I tightened that up a lil. I hope that fixes it and if not then I guess Ill be topping off fluid every few months
often, when the master cylinder starts to fail, fluid will "mysteriously" dissappear from the reservoir over time. usually the stuff leaks out of the master cylinder on the INSIDE of the firewall. crawl up under your dash and look at the inside end of the master cylinder. I found mine to be oozing down there.
rebuilt the MC and everything was fine. Nismo, I would guess you've found your problem, but you might want to check the inside also- just to make sure the MC is working properly. after several years the seals go out in them and you'll slowly lose fluid. with the loose fitting on yours, I would assume that was it, but you never know. keep an eye on it and see what happens.
