New Car

Newbie here.

My '99 Acura 3.2TL got totalled a few weeks ago so I'm in the market for a new car.

http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4288917661

So, I'm in the market for a new car and one of them is a 2002 Maxima SE. The other cars on my list are a little more sporty; WRX, RSX-S. So the Maxima is more the luxury side of the selections. It will be more along the line with my old TL.

One thing I didn't like about my TL was the body roll, even though it wasn't very significant I had to upgrade the suspension, a la Comptech Sways.

I was wondering if the Maxima's stock suspension is competent of spirited driving and if there were any mods you guys would suggest.

Also any other suggestions you guys might have will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well the max is no wrx or rsx in the handling department but suggested mods would some tokico illumina's matched with eibach springs which is what i want to get. Also a rear sway bar(rsb) and a front strut tower brace will help out too. It all depends, if you are looking for a more performance car you should get the WRX or RSX. If you are looking for a nice blend of luxuary/performance then the max is the way to go, just remember to get the manual. Good luck

Thanks for the response. Yeah I definitely will get the 6-spd if I get the '02. Speaking of which, is the stick feel kind of rubbery and vague? I've read reviews that Nissan shifters aren't the best, compared to BMW and Acura.

Another question is: How does the Maxima rate in the fun to drive sector?

Any comments on torque steer as well?

Well I have a 4th gen(wish i could get a 2002-2003 6sp) and the shifter on maxima's from what I know ain't the best but ain't the worst either. The fun to drive factor is definetly up there, I love driving my max and can't wait to just mod the hell out of it. It has some good power down low which in my car causes some torque steer but nothing unmanagable.
The best thing for you to do your research on the cars you want, compare notes, reviews etc. Then test drive them to see which best fits you. Anyone of the cars you listed will be be fun to own and modify so good luck

Since your other cars all end in X... why not add the NSX to your list??or are you actually going for affordable? just a thought.

I'll be getting a check in the mail for about $17,600 from the insurance company for my totalled TL. And now I'm afraid that those "X" cars are going to be too much for insurance. So a Max may be more probable.

Simple explanation:

Both of these cars stand out of their categories with ease. The Rex, for the price, is the highest performing, fun to drive, AWD car on the market, save the STi. The Max is the only FWD family sedan that offers a high performance V6 with a manual tranny. It's simple. They are both great cars with no competitors in my mind.

What FWD car can compete with the Max? Seriously. My TL could but it was a lousy slushbox.

Actually the new LS is on a RWD platform. I believe the GP only offers auto tranny.
