Magnaflow response about raspiness

I have listened to a couple sound clips of magnaflow exhaust mufflers on the maxima. Ceaser chariot being of them, all were very raspy....good at idle..but bees when revving. So I emailed magnaflow a sound clip..This is his response or part of it.

"I would suggest a longer resonator. Additionally, if the pipe is crush bent, or has a header, or the converter being removed will also cause harsh tones. I believe a longer muffler will not fit on that vehicle causing suspension clearance issues. Thanks for your interest in Magnaflow Performance."

I talked to him later on the phone. As we all know the y-pipe removes two pre cats...and even on stock exhaust you can here a slight tone of raspiness. I had asked if a longer canistor such as the 14246 18" canistor model in ss with no tip would eliminate some noise..if the area is big enough sure it will if not stick with the 14287 14" canistor. Also he said if you end up getting a magnaflow exhaust muffler it would be wise to take it to a magnaflow installer and have it put on. Reason being...if you decide to also add a new mandrel bent b-pipe they will use a magnaflow resonator........and they mate perfectly to the magnaflow muffler. Thus why all the sounds on their pages sound so good. Last point he recommended was a long resonator....at least 20".

Hopefully this info will help someone.

good info.
I actually use the stock resonator mated with apexi muffler,y-pipe, fabricated b-pipe, and it sounds good...IMO. no raspiness at all

i emailed magnaflow and got this response:

Ceasar,
typically a stainless muffler will cost around $140-$160. The resonator will retail for about $98. For good pricing please visit www.ExhaustProsLinc.com Thanks for your interest in Magnaflow Performance. -Ellis

My step sister recently broke the b pipe to muffler weld on her 96 SE 5 speed, and she asked for my help in fixing it. After talking it over with her "fixing it" turned into "full exhaust"

So the setup will be: WSP Y pipe, stock cat, WSP B pipe with 24" resonator, and a 20" SS Magnaflow universal muffler.

I talked to Dallas for awhile about the setup and he went into the back and found the 24" resonator. He usually puts an 18" resonator on, but I wanted longer.

I'll let you guys know how it sounds when the pipes and muffler arrives and I get everything installed. If it sounds great I'll even try to get sound/video posted.

Also, JMAXIMA had a Budget Y pipe and test pipe mated with a custom B pipe and Magnaflow XL Turbo muffler. It sounded good at idle, but had a bit too much "raspiness" between gear changes and when coming to a stop. So he went back to the muffler shop that made his B pipe, and got a resonator put on. Huge improvement in sound quality! Very deep still, and loud at WOT, but hardly any more raspy sound.

I too will soon be getting a magnaflow put on and i hope the resonator that the muffler shop puts on will ensure there's no raspiness.
