Kwiklift

Hey guys,
Been a while since I posted but was curious if anyone already had a kwiklift or used one before? I just put in my order the other day since I need something for longer term storage on a raised level now for my ongoing project. So instead of jackstands since I don't like using them for long term storage and also since I am having more than one person under the car at a time now I decided to go this route.

So has anyone tried one? Own one? Know someone who does?

one question... their website says "remove your wheels" ... how can you do that if you have to drive up on the thing??

You can remove the wheels while on it they mean. Some people look away from them because it would seem like you can not take off the tires etc while on a lift like this. So what they have is a piece that goes from one side to the other that you can put a jack on and lift the car enough to remove the tires while on the lift. This would be good for brake work and other things along that line.

Which is good because on the car I am working on I need to replace all the rigid brake lines. Basicly from the Master Brake cylinder to the calipers and everything in between.

Will do. They are trucking it up here since it weighs in at about 600 lbs and I should have it within the week hopefully. If I am really lucky i can get it by this weekend to throw the max on it for an oil change and then the project car up on it for all kinds of work that it needs right now.

That thing is freaking sweet!!! $1250 for one with wheel chocks, lift bar, powder coated, and ramps is a great deal. I'm definately going to get one these when I get a two car garage. I think it's the perfect compromise between a true lift and a jack. 20" of lift not including the car's ride height is great. Removing a tranny shouldn't be much trouble. How much is shipping?

Well since they have to ship it frieght because of the weight it actually saves money on shipping. You either need a business adress to have it shipped to (my house for example is residential/commercial) or pick it up at a freight station. I am pickling it up since there is no garantee that someone will be at my house at the right time. But the shipping is running me $100.00 plus a $25 packing fee (the packing runs them 50 bucks each kit so they try to get a bit of it back). Not bad since having regular parts that weigh in around 3 pounds run 20 bucks shipping sometimes. The kit is also designed so that you can fit it into the bed of a pickup, even a shortbed. The station they have near me is only about 15 minutes from home and they will put it in the truck for you using a lift.

The people at the shop are very nice too. There are only three guys who work there, one being the owner, so you really get treated as an individual. For example when I called the first time just to get information I spoke to the owner directly. He filled me in where I had questions and when I had no more he was like "Well tell me about yourself, what kind of cars you using it with, what kind of work you do on your cars etc etc" We talked for about 35 minutes or so on all kinds of car talk including some of the cars he is working on with his son , mustangs, vettes, you name it.he was also very intrested in my project car and talking to me about his friends Maxima and how he might get his wife a 350Z and things like that. So I told him I would give him a call in a week or so to order and he was like "Hey no big deal, I will keep your information on hand to save you some time if you call back". Well I called back after a week or so I got my first name out and like the first letter of my last and he remembered me and our talk. He actuall said my name before I even finished it and the cars we talked about then he said hold on let me get your file. I thought it was cool that he remembered me and talking just off the cuff. Very nice service.

yeah I was figuring that with the 20 inches of height then the car adding another 8 inches or so till most of the parts is perfect. High enough to reach around and have some moving space without not being able to reach due to it being too high or anything. Plenty of space to roll on the creeper etc.

I already made up my mind about buying it that was obviously clear from my first post. The question was not "Should I buy this". The question was one if anyone had used one and what they thought about it. I have a specific need for this lift in the upcoming months/years for my project car. At no time did that question come up. What I did ask was if you did happen to have one what you thought. I had read other opinions on plenty of other sites where I do not post. I am not a member on those sites. Here however I have been for a few years and since there was not a previous post on these (well there was about a year and change ago but i did not see it anymore using search) I figured I would share it with this community since that was always what I liked about being here.

Nothing for you to see here, move along.

It doesn't look easy to use since you have to jack it with a floor jack. Additionally, it doesn't look safe.

having to use a jack once to get the whole car 20" off the ground is easy.. .having to use one jack multiple times to get a car up on *usually unsteady* jackstands is difficult.

and if you think that is unsafe, never drive over a bridge or enter any highrise building, because it's made with the same stuff those are made from.

I see nothing dangerous with this setup. The front pivot points are fixed and the rear pivot points are angled rearward and have a safety lock. Seeing that the 4th gen Maxima weighs 3000lbs, only 750lbs will be on each post. That's really nothing when each post is rated to handle 1250lbs.

If you really feel uncomfortable with the lift, you could always put a set of jackstands (only $15 for a set) under the rear of the lift.

Once you put it up with the jack the first time your all done. It then locks into place and you can remove the jack. It is not needed for more than a minute or so the first time.
