VQ30DE - 190HP and 205 Ib/ft of torque
VQ35DE - 255HP and 246 Ib/ft of torque

May I say both engines are base on the same VQ technology, I'm not sure if VQ30DE has dual stage varaible intake manifold like VQ35, but just by the Performance rating, the winner is pretty clear.

P.S. Even though VQ35 is taking the edge of the performance side, please also keep in mind that VQ30 brought Maxima's name of "4 Door Sports Car" and rule the Midsize Sedan section, outpowering Galants, Accords, Camry, etc... and other V6 competitor sedans. Also, Won the top 10 best engine like 7 years in a role or something (In the 90s).

I vote for the VE. Only made for 3 years (92-94) and has all the goodies that the new 3.5 has. The VE was way ahead of it's time.

- Variable valve timing
- Variable intake

Even the transmission had limited slip, and from what I have read here, limited slip on the newer cars is farther and fewer between.

The VQ30-DE-K in the 2k and 2k1 have variable intakes, which had 222HP. In recent years I think the Nissan platform/engine decisions are wack. For instance the VQ30DE-K should've been in a fourth gen and never been in the the 2k-2k3 body. Should've went straight to the 3.5 for that body style. As far as the best...I'll put it this way the only other Max I'd own is a 2k2 or 2k3 6 spd. 3.5 all the way. It has to be some way to get the G35 or even the 350Z numbers out a Max.

He's probably not talking about all-out speed. It's said that the VQ30's were a lot smoother which makes sense because the piston speeds are a lot slower. Most of the displacement bump up to 3.5L was stroke, which increases piston speed and vibration. Even Ward's Auto (10 Best Engines) has mentioned that.

Yeah I'm gonna go with the vq30 myself. I'm only at 115k but I have no leaks, and no rattles ( wait I lied my interior has its own little band) and runs smooth as silk.

Not on mine. Plus we have the greatness of the Nissan 3 liter with a variable intake. Best of both worlds.

I worked for Nissan before.... MASTER TECH Anyways... the pieces U see in your motor are butterfly screws that came out of the butterfly inside the INTAKE manifold... there is a 2ndary butterfly inside the intake that likes to loose screws like dat. I Quit Nissan 4 years ago... but I am up to date on whats up with all cars. VQ30DE-K is the most reliable VQ so far- no injector problems as of yet. I am a Acura tech now... but I hate the cars- pays good... so I can care less- see my stickers on my tool box ? Calvin ****n on Acura.
