Junk on windshield...

I just bought a 92 GXE. On the windshield, it has some kind of permanently-affixed crap. It looks kinda like when the windows are fogged up in the morning, but kind of more blotchy (if that makes any sense). It's faintly visible all over the windshield, but is very visible right in the driver's field of vision; so it's really annoying. I tried Windexing the inside and outside, as well as just wiping the windshield down dry, but it didn't come off.

It looks like a film, but it won't go away. Oh, and it gets a bit worse w/high humidity. It gets really bad when the wipers are on (but I think I need new wipers too)...

Any ideas? I'm gonna try to get some glass polish this weekend, but who knows if that will work...

buy some steel wool, grade 0000. Use it on the winshield and it will take off mostly everything that is stuck throughout the years... then wipe off with invisible glass cleaner
