Jeff (Maximus 75) mechanic and owner of www.maximumtuning.net from what I heard people say, has a 6-speed in his superchareged 4th gen.

The tranny will fit in with no problems, but I do not know if the axles are different or not. You need to talk with Dixit (BigDogJonxx or something like that) about this.

Maybe it's the same bolt pattern and just needs different housing or something...

I think he said it wasn't really worth the effort because the gear ratios are better on the 5spd.

It will work fine, 95-01 are the same tranny, nothing different except supposedly the 4th gen internals are not as strong as the 5th gen ones according to DaveB.

Axels are also the same. No issue. If its that cheap, jump on it.

The more important question is:
Will a SIX speed transmission fit in a 4th gen?

You'd think so, if they fit the 2000-2001 5 speed in the same spot that they fit the 2002-2003 Six speed...and I think the 4 Speed Automagic has been the same from 1995-2003. I'm actually looking around to see if there are diagrams or technical drawings to answer a few questions:
Are all the transmission mounts the same on the 4 speed auto, 5 speed manual, and 6 speed manual transmissions?
Do they all bolt up to the engine the same way?
Are the mounting locations on the frame of the car the same?

MaxKlinger, when you get a chance, if it is working, do a search and you will see the only person that has attempted this is maximus75 who said he had to do MAJOR work. First off the 6spd is cable driven instead of rod driven. He also said he had to modify the start to make it fit as well.

The transmissions mounts are different, but the engine mounts from a 5spd CAN be used on an auto. Im using actually 2k2 6spd (modified) engine mounts.

Trans part #s are different, but gauranteed it will work. Im about to put a 95 tranny in my 01. Just waiting for the custom LSD to be finished and then DaveB is sending all new parts for the conversion.

Without a doubt it will work. The part numbers are different because they (daveB) says that the 5th gen 3rd gear is stronger than the 4th gen ones.

DaveB knows this because he checked the 3rd gear part #s and his documentation where it shows the gear is stronger than before.

I also just talked to Jaime about 5mins ago, and I told him the job is no harder, its the same tranny from the outside, everything bolts up 100%.

Man, I need to change my name because it makes for a ton of confusion on this Org. I'm "Dave B" and "DAVEB" is the parts guru. I'll have to ask Jamie about switching my screen name. DAVEB should keep his screen name.

From what I've read, the 00-01 tranny should work. I'd confirm by calling a reputable Nissan parts department. The bolt-pattern, mounts, and clutches are the same and I'd assume the axles are the same. I'd check the tranny number and axles numbers.

Nissan supposedly changed because of too many claims on the 4th gen trannys falling apart.

600 is pretty good for a tranny. You can usually get a motor cheaper than a transmission.
