$180 for magnaflow 14814 installed, ripoff?

i asked a local muffler shop for a price estimate for a magnaflow model number 14814 installed, and he said 180 bucks. the magnaflow i have now is too freakin big and scrapes the ground on steep driveways etc. so i want to get an oval one instead. does the price sound reasonable?

not sure, but i'll give the guy a call to see. in any case, 180 seems a bit high.

well if the muffler is $120 or so and the install is $60 than it adds up...Magnaflows tend to be kinda pricey, especially SS models and especially when you buy through a middle man.

Seems like a real good price to me. That muffler is atleast 120+ installation only 60 dollars since its not bolt on? Can't be to bad.

they have aluminized steel that's cheaper but if i scratch it and that protective coating is gone, i'm SOL, so i want SS. as for the sound being raspy, the one i have now isn't raspy as all, unless the oval design changes the sound...

Fortunately no, just from what I read here. If the muffler is BIG then it should sound good. Seems that many failed to put a resonator in there to quiet it down. All I'll say is that besides a 5th gen muffler the only other I'd use is the WS I have now, this thing has a HUGE muffler...

southwest autoworks can beat that price for the muffler. if he is doing $50 install, tell him you will provide the muffler and get it from alex at SWA for cheaper.

i think SWA selling it for 129.99 as well, unless you're talking about the group deal they have going.

Listen to Jason. SWA is having a group deal in the GROUP DEAL forum. Call them and order one I think the most expensive one they have is like 105 shipped. Save yourself 25 to 30 bucks and just have them install it.

I just got that same muffler installed on my 2k2 with a cattback system...if you have an auto like me, be ready for a constant very deep bass like droning sound from 2000-2500rpm. a resonator may help, but if you think the droning will bother u, get a diff muffler

Most all the magnaflows sound pretty much the same, they major diff is if you have a Y-pipe. Then it drones too much. I FINALLY got mine off, I loved the way it sounded at idle but from 1500-1800 it just had too much drone for me. It wasnt loud, just droned too much. Back to OEM for now...I still have a little tone due to the Y/B pipes but its 95% quieter and low it actually picked up a bit. No power loss is detectable.
As for muffler installs...I got mine done for $20
