I just ran against two guys in a new Celica. We both punched it at about 15mph right after the light. There were 2 people in each car. I jumped out about 1 car length in front of him and then he stayed right there up to about 100mph. Since he did hang so good, I assume it was a GTS.

So who won? I know there is this guy in a white Celica GTS at my school that want to race me. Or at least, he seem like he want a piece of me. I wish I can run into him this semester. Since I got my CAI, I feel a bit more confident that I can take him.

strange fact is that a new celica is slower than the old ones. read that in Motor Trend just before the new celica came out. seems to me that he musta been working really hard to keep up with you.

Nobody won really...I never pulled away and he never gained.

However, those things have NO torque below 5000 RPM. I think you should get him easily in a drag. Use that VQ grunt off the line.

Celicas are pretty quick....

I think they are supposedly around 6.6 0-60. Right on par with a 5 speed Max.

Actually, the new celicas are quite a bit faster than the old ones. Unless you'r comparing to the really old ones with awd turbos. The last celica before this one had like 135 hp, this one has 185.

My girlfriend has the GT-S 6 speed. I've driven it a few times and it's pretty darn quick. Its right on par with the 5 speed Max. Of course I cant race it now that I have the S/C but im pretty sure that her stock GT-S can beat a "stock" Auto Max. I have all the love in the world for my fellow Maxima enthusiasts...just voicing my opinion. I actully like the GT-S alot, clean and quick. It's my girls ride! Do I have a choice?? =-P j/k It's a sweet car...

The current generation Celica GT-S 6-Speed can run low low 15s maybe even high 14s. 180hp weighing in at something like 2500-2600lbs. Its no joke. So if you line up with one on the street. Don't think its slower than the last one. Its not. Its going to be a race. Then there are automatic GT-Ss. Thats gotta be a crime. Torqueless engine mated with an auto tranny. Hehe..

I test drove one too.

Probably the coolest test drive I've ever had. Yeah, they are quick. Not as fast off the line as the max though, but damn smooth all the way through the gears. Best thing though, the car is tight!!! Stiffness and weight make this little thing a corner killer... and it stops on a dime, too!

How does the new Celica GTS compare to let say a Integra GSR? With my new CAI, I already took out a GSR w/intake, ignition, and something else I forgot. The GSR guy thought I had a supercharger in my car. I told him if I did have a supercharger in my car, I would have won by a bigger margin. I only won by one car length. Oh well, I guess I have to find out for myself if I can take that GTS. Btw, his GTS is stock from what I can tell.

With your mods it should be a tight race. You win some and you loose some. Good Luck cumalot and be safe...
Let us know what happens.

There is a guy I see all the time driving home from work who drives a new GTS ('French Men Move Fast' license plate frame). The first time I raced him I only had the CAI running, with my clutch slipping, and I beat him by ~1-2 car lengths, easy. Last time I raced him I had the Y-Pipe, and gave him a beating so bad he should have ran home to his mommy. We raced off the line, pretty even through 1st. End of first I pulled slightly ahead, when I hit second, I lunged forwad a good deal, sending him to around my rear wheels (to give you an idea). Other races we had were from out of corners, and I easily left him behind. He continues to try and race me but its just not fun anymore...

been there, done that

i have a stock 97 gxe (2 peeps in car) pulled right to a celica gts. right off the line, i took him with a horrible take-off (too much clutch). at the end of first i was 1/2 a car length on him. i then chirpped second gear and took off. by 60 mph, i was now 1 1/2 car lengths and quit. i let him pass and saw "gts". i dont know if it was a 5-speed or automatic. o well..

Re: been there, done that

The GTS only comes in 6-speed and 4-speed auto flavors.

Btw, I'm getting Don's VB upgrade. That should help me out against the GTS, right? I would hope that after getting the VB upgrade, I don't have to manually shift my auto. I don't like doing that because it's definitely not too good for my car. However, without a VB upgrade, if I don't manually shift, I'm not going to get the most out of my car. I can't wait to get it!

thanks for the correction. after thinking about it and reading posts, im sure it was a 4-speed auto. i thought they had some top end pull (they have high redlines, right?). i would like run against a 6-speed. i think that would be close.

im going to smack you guys around now here

i had a 2k gts 6 spd
went 14.9 bone stock
then went 14.6 with an intake
then added a 50 shot
went 13.12@106 with the 50 shot and drag radials

now, stock for stock, good drivers in both max and gts it will be a close race.
now auto max Vs 6spd gts. the gts will win. there are guys on newcelica.org {my new home} that have run low 14's on motor.

just hope they don't mis-shift, motor go blamo

never the less. i still love da max's
