Hey Guys-- I noticed that my stock brakes aren't working as sharply since I replaced stock tires(205/6515) with 17" Rims + Yoko(235zr4517). Do I need to upgrade my brake pads/rotors for better brake performance?
If so, any suggestions on which ones I should get?
Thanks=)

Switching to new rims is really not related to brake pad wear. Since you have a 97 you probably just need new pads

Hey Maxgurl, think you could send me a pic of the VX1 rims on your car. Those have caught my eye before, and i've narrowed it down to those, the Mille Miglia Evos and Spiders, although i'm leaning towards the Evos now. Nonetheless, a pic would help me make a decision.
Thnx.

I'd think with better tires, you'd be able to brake better. I have a set of stainless steel brakelines that are waiting to be put on. I thought I'd wait for my 17" wheel upgrade.

the brake does feel it's not gripping as hard when upgrading to 17", better pads should solve the problem.. i am still trying to wear out the factory pad so i can go aftermkt... meanwhile, drive safely loh~~~
how big of an improvement are ss brake lines?
~All I gotta say is 'it wasn't me'.
I haven't scanned pic of my ride yet...

Check out http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/index.jsp
They carry Mille's and u can see how they look on your Max.
While you're there, click on Moda R4 wheels, they look very similar to my VX1s.

I was in the same situation last week. I decided against the SS brake lines, because I don't need that much more braking power. I checked my pads and rotors and I only needed new front pads. I ordered the Axxis pads online and they are great. They come with the anti-squeal compound and they stop much better. Save the cash from the SS lines and get something else (FSTB or RSB).Originally posted by 97MaxGurl

I wouldn't worry too much of the brakes... I would look for new suspension first to close in that ugly wheel gap!
try H&R if you like a comfy ride or Eibach for the performance.

Don't forget about the shocks if you are looking to replace the springs. I thought my stock shocks would last for a while on Eibachs and I had to replace them after a month. Could have saved some money if I had them both replaced at the same time.

SS brake lines help keeping the brake feeling consistant and solid. Metal expands less than rubber when it is cold or hot.
Mods should be felt, not seen.
