Ok...

A friend of me that Nissan has been having BIG problems with the trannys in the '97-'00 Maxima's but the problems have been fixed for 2001.

He said that they made the transmissions are made of a metal and plastic mix, making it lighter. He said that a lot of '97-'00 Maxima's have had transmission problems.

Is this true??

P.S. He drives an SUV, and he wants me to get one too instead of the '97 SE that I'm planning on purchasing soon, which may be his reasoning for these comments.

Thanks for any help!

Uhm... metal and plastic mix? That's technically impossible, they don't mix.

I'm just telling you what he said!

I was just curious because I'm probably going to buy a '97 SE soon...and I don't want any more transmission problems after the $2000 rebuild on my current Max.

He is incorrect.. The 97+ trannies are made of a wood and steel alloy. Resulting in less weight and a pleasant cedar smell in in the spring.
