Dallas and I have been contacted by several Max. owners asking about 3" y-pipes. We are thinking of making a batch of them. They would have the standard down pipe, merge into a 3" plenum, 3" flex and have a 3 bolt swivel flange. They would need to be more expensive as the 3" flex section is considerably more expensive(we are checking on prices). We have 3" Carsound Cats available now. If you are interested. Please call Dallas. Still trying to decide on 409SS vs. Aluminized steel. This is your pipe if you have a SC.

I would definatly buy one!

If it does not cost a whole ton more I would like in to be SS. How does the car sound convertor compare to a RT cat? I plan on getting a 3' Y-Pipe and 3' cat and then a custom dual exaust starting out at 3' and breaking into two 2 1/2 inch pipes finished off with a couple Stillen mufflers{Just thought I would share. BTW you said to call but I don't know your #. Thanks

3" y-pipe

Our 800 # is 1-866-801-9338 It rings at Dallas's place. He likes calls during buisness hours if possible. Please remember this is a trial, we are not 100% sure that all will fit yet. My guess is yes, after looking under alot of Maximas. We also are unsure regarding h/p gains, noise, etc. BTW the Carsound Cat was very respectable with a head to head dyno trial. RT had 1 more h/p at peak.We don't think the RT Cats extra cost is worth it for h/p gained. Will post later when we have had a chance to play with it. Thanks for your interest.

i was wandering if you did not have a SC, would the 3" y-pipe and hi-flo converter still be worth it. i know you have not tested it yet but do you think the gains would be alot more than the normal aftermarket y-pipe. in a couple of years i will probably get a SC but not anytime soon. i would expect the noise to go up quite a bit but i guess that is the price you pay for more horsepower. thanks and sorry for so many questions.

3" y-pipe

Good question Matt. My answer would have to be that I don't know. Other members are more knowledgeble than I in this area. It will probably help you on the high end, but my guess is that your low end will suffer. If anyone here has a theory let's hear it. Dan WSP

is 3" possible all the way from cat back?

You might want to check other posts on 2.25" vs 2.5" vs 3" pipes. There are concerns about whether it's even possible to keep 3" all the way through.
One possiblility may be an irregularly shaped (oval or rectangular) to keep the cross section up.

ok if the low end would suffer w/ the 3" y-pipe then couldnt you offset that loss with an aluminum flywheel or underdrive pulley? also if you do end up making them would the whole exhaust system have to be 3". because i should be recieving my apexi WS catback any damn day now and was wondering if that would work. again sorry for so many question. just trying to get my info straight

i think 3" is pointless

unless you are pushing MAJOR power then you will not need it.
800HP skylines and supras only run ~3.2" exhausts.
There is no point in going 3" on a N/A max. Even a SC max will prolly not max out a 2.5" pipe.

Re: i think 3

I think that Dan said that the 3" pipe is a response to requests from SC users...
