here is a link to results when I typed in "brake pads" in the above search box. There's some good info in there.

Also, you can click on my profile and click on the link to look at all my posts related to brakes (there should be at least a dozen).

My recommendations:

Get Axxis Metalmaster pads, #23-430-01 from carparts.com. They will be $50, possibly less if you use a coupon from importhookup.com. They are the most agreed upon brakes to use for their overall performance and minimal dusting. If you want slightly better performance and a good bit of dusting, then go Porterfield.

As for rotors, if you want cross-drilling for looks, then get them. The will yield more performance, but will most likely crack or warp prematurely. From Porterfield, you can ask to have the blank rotors (they use Brembo blanks) cross-drilled. That will run you about $75 for each rotor and $40 to cross-drill each rotor. Should be $225 to 250 after shipping. Otherwise, just buy blank Brembo rotors from carparts.com as well, as they are cheaper. I have listed part numbers and prices before, but here goes again:

Front Brake Rotor: JBR-505 $45 @carparts.com

Front Brake Pads:
Deluxe Plus: 22-430-01 $39
Metalmaster: 23-430-01 $47 (Recommended)
Metal-LU: 24-430-01 $26
Metal-LU: 24-653-01 $23
Super-LU: 25-430-01 $23
Super-LU: 25-653-01 $21
Super-X: 27-430-01 $21
Metal-X: 28-430-01 $22
Metal-X: 28-653-01 $22

Rear Brake Rotor: JBR-506 $35 @carparts.com

Rear Brake Pads:
Deluxe Plus: 22-540-01 $33
Metalmaster: 23-540-01 $46 (Recommended)
Metal-LU: 24-540-01 $27
Super-LU: 25-540-01 $20
Super-LU: 25-595-01 $20
Super-X: 27-540-01 $17
Super-X: 27-595-01 $17
Metal-X: 28-540-01 $23

Quite honestly, you should sign up for the Wilwood $800 brake kit that Shingles has arranged. 4-piston calipers and 12" rotors will haul your Max down faster than any aftermarket cross-drilled rotors.

I just bought a pair of PowerStop cross-drilled rotors off of Ebay; got them yesterday. The instructions say that you MUST use new pads with the new rotors. The only pads they recommend are Axxis Metal Masters. I sent an e-mail to Olympic brakes this morning and here is the response I got from them.

Does anyone know if the hardware kit or shim kit is required?

Thanks for your inquiry. Prices are as follows:

Front metal master pads/23-430-01..................................$43.37/These actually fit the early model Maxima but can be used for the later model. There is no current Axxis part number for the later models. You may require the hardware kit as listed below.

Hardware kit/may be required.......................................... .$14.44

Front pad shim/may be required.......................................$5. 36

Rear Axxis pads/23-540-01..............................................$3 6.65

Rear pad shim kit/may be required...................................$5.20

Front Power Stop rotors............................................ .......$74.54 each

Rear Power Stop rotors............................................ ........$83.46 each

Sincerely,

to Change or not to Change...

Cross drilled or slotted (or both) is personal preference. There's no documented proof that one out-performs the other. Other than that, Bill99gxe is provided all the 411 you need to know (and buy)about Brake Pads/Rotors.

my experience

I've got brembo c/d fronts and KVR rear c/d.

Both front & rear rotors I've had for 3 years.
No warping, no cracking.

I use porterfields front & rear. Awesome pad.
Dusting not nearly as bad w/ c/d rotors compare to stock ones.

Metal master pads suck imho.

Call up KVR and they'll set you up.

I've got a brand new set of front porterfields I'd like to sell if you're interested. These were bought in anticipation of needing to change pads. But I'm going for the wildwood brake deal, so I won't need em.

I don't want to lose money on the deal. I'll sell em for exactly what I got in em, except I'll ship em free if interested. Anyone interested email me directly.
