Good Price for Used Engine?
Well, for reasons unknown, my engine took a crap the other day after the water pump ordeal. So, it is time to move on to another engine, and keep this one as a project.
I have found a local junkyard selling a 96 engine for $300 with 75,000 miles, VIN # approved. I will pick it up. But, since I am doing the labor, and I am not ASC certified, they can not warranty it for the 90 days. So, it will basically come with no warranty. Do you all find this acceptable to maybe still buy it and install it, or should I find another engine with a full warranty, for $200-$300 dollars more? Thanks all.
PS: VERY tight budget = not happy shopping. Also, this is my only car, so it needs to be done ASAP.

That sounds like a good deal to me. The KEY is you need to get back up ASAP. I might have a engine handy in a month or so but I know you cant wait. What ever happened to your indash unit?

$300 sounds fair to me....MORE than ½ the mileage on your former engine. When are you gonna be workin on it?

I would def. rather have a warranty then not having one. Does running the Vin verify actualy miles?
The only problem is buying something w/o a warranty sometimes requires taking a chance (not in all cases).
If you do not go with it, I'll talk to some people and see if I can source a motor for you.
Too bad you aren't in NJ, it would be a bit easier to help you out.

Yeah, I know it is a great price, but that warranty thing plays with me, in my mind. The VIN is verified at around 75,000 miles so that is fine. Everything is good, just that warranty concept is a little weird to me. I keep thinking to myself, "Ok, I know it will work, but what about a month down the road when it starts spilling out oil and looses compression?". But, I guess I will have to take the chance. Thanks all for replying.
Donald, when I rent the truck to get my engine, I am stopping by Jesse's hermanas casa and picking yours up. I will let you know the exact date.

The question is, do you need a warranty? Or do you need a boosted Maxima?

I would look around some more. I have a yard somewhat local where I get VQ's for 250$, with 90day warranty (even though I install). Check around to more yards and see if they will warranty.
If not, just make SURE they guarantee that it ran (they checked it) and get comp #'s. Trust me I know the feeling of beating yourself to death swapping a motor real fast, and finding out the new powerplant is crap.
