Another Custom LED Project ***PICS***

Now that I converted to 5-speed, I wanted a shift light but not something too noticable or bulky, so why not some more blue LEDs?

I mounted the LEDs down the center of the cluster and got them all wired up and ready to go. A Summit RPM switch will be here Monday and I will set the switch so the LEDs light around 6200rpm.

Here's a couple pics of the LEDs mounted:

This could be done in any color LED and they could be mounted in several locations with any number of LEDs. I chose 6 blue ones down the center because I thought it would look the cleanest when un-lit and the most noticable when lit.

looks great.
i had all these LED ideas that you are doing, glad to see you are making them all come to fruition, i just dont have the money or patience to do it, at least there is someone else who is more LED's crazy then me. .

are you going to have all of them light up at one point, or at multiple points?

They'll all light at the set RPM and I will shift. There's no reason to have them light at multiple points.

These projects I do are actually very cheap, just the cost of the LEDs which isn't much at all.

Funny how people say they had the same ideas before I did but they never actually attempted any of them

I was thinking about doing soemthing like this, but have each light a certain gear. It would be to much of a project tho, but i'm still looking into it.

Front turn signals (44 LEDs each)...after that I am done with projects til April. I'm an accountant and tax season is here, so I will be working 70+ hours per week, no time for the Maxima except to drive it to and from work/clients...

Yes, each LED needs a resistor since the RPM switch puts out a 12v signal when it reads the set RPM. I put a resistor on each LED and a power and ground to each LED, then they all go back to one common power and one common ground which will go to the RPM switch. Here's a pic:

I bet you could do it by using 2 rpm switches and set them to diffrent rpms and diffrent lds. That would be the ****.

I bought 10 LEDs on E-bay 4 days ago and I will be using them for the window and door lock switches.

They are 3000-4000 mcd. Is that too bright???

BTW: What resistors do i need??

You gotta buy the LEDs from cwithk, they come with free resistors if you buy it now. 3000-4000mcd isnt that bright, 6000-7000 is nice and bright. You'll be fine though.

Should have bought way more than 10, you may mess some up and have to buy more which would suck.

Yea that would definitely work, I may do that down the road, but for now 1 switch is enough. They are only like $50 so it's not gonna break the bank...

you dont need resistors for the window switches cause you are replacing LEDs and there are resistors in place already

3-4k is fine, not the brightest but you'll be happy with them regardless.

It would be cool if you could set it up as (starting from bottom) Green Green Green Yelow Yellow Red , and got it to go up as the revs went up.

But what you did is awesome none-the-less.

Yea, that could be done with several RPM switches but I will keep it how it is.

You know me and blue LEDs, having any other color just wouldn't be me

I'm sure someone here on the .org would be happy to host. Maybe ask Dixit or someone?
