I don't think there is. You could prolly get one custom made, but that would cost you lots and lots of money. You could probably jsut buy a new car for that money instead.

I think that's an insult to manual shifting. I was riding in a 528 that had it. I think it's pointless.

after driving a BMW 323i with that system I have come to the conclusion that it is the most stupid option ever. it does not drive like a manual tranny and made me feel like less of a man when I pulled up to a light next to a mustang.

.....

Can someone please explain to me what exactly the difference tiptronic and regular automatic is??? I have wondered this for awhile but found no real information on this board or any bmw boards. I know in tiptronic you can shift up and down through the gears, but you can the same thing in a regular automatic.

I always thought the differnce between an automatic and a manual was the actual gearing. My friend has a bmw 318 with tiptronic, but I don't see how it's any different from me shifting up and down in my automatic. He only has 4 gears in his tiptronic, as I do in my automatic, he can shift up and down; so can I.... so what's the difference if it's not the actual gearing???? Something must be treated differently when the tiptronic option is turned on.

Is the tiptronic just more conditioned for shifting through the gears or something?? I have no ideas, just trying to make some type of educated guess.

To answer your question, no maxima has tiptronic transmission (any gen.); to the best of my knowledge.

here is the deal...

you are driving along in your auto at about 60 on the highway... you press down on the gas just a little and the next thing you know the car has downshifted (which you did not want). With a tiptronic the car will do exactly what you tell it to unless you are in danger of redline or stall. You can be in 4th gear and roll to a stop sign and it will not stall on you. if you floor it and don't shift, then the car just shifts at redline in each gear. To conclude: its kind of like shifting an auto, but you have more "say" in what the engine does. It is NOT anything like a manual tranny in terms of driving feel or response.

hope this helps

You can't really down shift in an auto, not if you want your tranny to last. Up shifting you can do, make sure the over drive is off, but down shifting is one of the worst things you can do to an automatic. Triponic, slapstick, autostick,e-shifting, whatever you want to call it, lets you upshift and downshift without doing damnage to your tranny.

.

Essentially tip-tronic will hold the transmission in whatever gear you want it to be in, unless it is put in danger of ruining itself. Is that the only difference??

I always hear people say that downshifting is bad ( i believe it to), but since the car manual tells me how to do it, I assume it's not certain death for it.

This is from a manual for an accord with a regular automatic transmission.
"By upshifting and downshifting through 1, 2, D3, & D4, you can operate this transmission much like a manual trasmission without a clutch pedal."

Its somewhat safe to do, at low speeds. But you can't be in drive at like 60 and drop down to 3rd. but you can start off in 1 then put it in 2 then 3rd, then drive.
