The 99 is faster and should have less problems thinking that the 2000 maximas have a lot of bugs in them.

I'm looking at the SE model for both.

the 2k has 222 HP

reviews i've read put them both at 7.9 seconds to 60mph (obviously this will be slightly lower in standard, which is what I'm looking for)

can anyone tell me if this is true? if the 2k is 222HP but same performance as the 99, then is there any other reason to go with the 2k??

are they more reliable, easier to work on, excesivly more sexy, corner better?????

All information and perspectives are greatly appriciated ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I would just purchase a '95 or '96 SE and do a '97-'98 cosmetic conversion to save you some $$$. I still don't dig the 5th gen style. i only like the 2k2-2k3 headlights and that's about it. And it's sad that people steal those hot a$$ headlights.

I love my 99, it is great performance wise, go for the 99, my auto is much quicker than you might think. Anyone that says the 99s are slower are full of ****, I have the federal exhaust, so I have more room with exhaust mods, but the ECU thing isnt a big deal.

If you want speed, get a 95-96

If you want style, get a 97-99

If you want a torque monster with class, get a 2k2.

I have a 96 and a 2k2, I can honestly say that the 96 is more comfortable to sit in. But the 2k2 has an awesome looking interior (very nice transition from the 4th gen, the gauges, interior features, and HID's are very nice) and you can't beat the engine (unless you have boost )

Just my .02

99's apparently have the "defective" 2k coils. They're covered via a TSB on the 2k's but 99 owners are up a creek. They just tend to go bad more often than other years, but aren't really a big deal to replace. They're $55-60/ea and anybody with basic tools and a Haynes repair manual can manage replacement.

I had one go bad on me at 73k miles and replaced it myself. Now at 84k and haven't had another one go out, but I do have 2 spares handy just in case. A friend of mine had one of his go out and it cost $350 for a Nissan $tealership to replace ONE of them. Wish he would have talked to me but it happened all of a sudden I guess.

DIY replace: $55-60
Stealership replace: $350

Thanks!

Thankyou everyone for the input!!

I've given much thought to the different options and I feel that it's in my best interest to get a 99SE. I've been driving a 95GXE(260km) for over 2 years and love it. I'd just like something with less mileage, and less likely to start costing me. Price wise, given that the 2k isn't worlds better(though nice it is), I think I'm going to stick with the 4th gen. This will put the knowledge that I've gained about the 4th gen to good use. This time I will put the mods on my car early so I have more time to enjoy them!!!

Again, thanks to all!!

I'm sorry but you won't find a better looking Maxima than a red 99 SE...or black....that's just my opinion though...also 4th gen, again in my opinion, has a much better interior quality wise....my 97 has almost 100k on it and I swear to god it still looks showroom new if I detail it....plus the Bose stereo is better....and the rims still hold thier own....
