I went to kooks headers because i was recommended to them by SK speed which told me they do great work. So i called the guy up and spoke to, i forgot the owners name and asked about custom headers for a maxima. He told me to come down and he would take alook. I went down there and he put my car on the lift to check it out. He looked at the headers and told me it would be a lot of work to fit a set of headers in there since their is not alot of room to work with. I even told him i could get him alot of business from other maxima drivers who would be interested. He didn't really even care about that and said basically leave already we have race cars to work on.
I don't know how he was able to do that work for you, b/c they mainly modify race cars. Maybe he had a change of heart when you went to see him but who knows. Anyway he told me a set would cost around 1000 or so. But thats interesting that all of sudden he wants to do it.

I just talked to Kook this afternoon->

He said he can do SS custom headers for the Maxima for $650. I guess it's the end of racing season and he got time now. $650 is great price for some custom headers. I might make a trip out there.

The first set will probably be cheap->

Then they figure out it's pain the *** and jack the price up. It's always better to be the first person when it comes to custom stuff. I don't think you can beat $650 for a pair of headers on the Maxima.

YES!

Long tube 3-2-1 for each side then into 2 for the pair and one 2.5" from there back to muffler!
WOW that would cook! I know this is a diferent story, but SCed COBRA guys who only displace 281cid like my self
(I'm not SCed),need that extra flow to optimize boost... Most SCed 96-99 COBRA guys with 6psi boost; who add long tube headers pick up an amazimg 25-30 hp and 1psi, 16-20 N/A on average. Also we COBRA guys have the dificulty of finding a good brand of Long tube header due to such a tight fit motor. considering the similar displacment of a newer maxima, I'd think the custom header would come close.
Say 10 - 12hp easy on N/A and quite possibly 20 on boost or NO2.
BTW best headers for my car from BBK cost almost $900!!!!
consider yourself favored. Please document all the process. it is such valuble info.
Thanks GUYS
I know it looks big, but its not a conventional block, it's modular which means the crank journal are is bolted to the cylinder block, and then those BIG 32V heads on top.
Think Of it like a 3 piece RIM, lighter stronger. 5 pieces make my motor. and stock it revs to 6800 just like a max....
Very similar except for 2 more cylinders. Ideas?.....

So I guess he wants you to bring your Maxima down there so he can prototype it?

Sounds like this is getting interesing. I'm sure Kooks can do the headers, it's just a question of how much time they want to invest in the project and what they think their sales prospects are.

Maybe if they knew that there were - say 40 guys on Maxima.org that would buy them he would mass-produce a set. But also keep in mind that the CA-Spec cars will need a different design than Federal.
