Vented hood questions

Anyone have the Sarona design hood, Custom Maxima offers it...

I want to know if the vents are open, if water can get onto the engine, and if it just lets air out of the engine or if maybe it forces air into the engine. what are the possiblities of putting some sort of scoop on a pre-exsisting vent?

Or are there any other options for vented hoods for our maxima's?

I'd be mildly surprised if it actually was vented and not just for looks (which doesn't look all that great..or maybe its the puke paint color) But that hood is FG, which is succeptable to cracking (yeah, I know you arent going to scrape your hood like you would a lip) but weather wise, it might.

I personally think the hood looks great. I do however think it just collects water. It almost seem to me like a Roof for the Engine but it has Gutters on it as well that let water run inside the engine.
I couldn't see water standing inside those hood-vents.
How can that not be vented? I mean look at the hood.
Mines no pinic either though. I made mine from scratch so long ago now it is kinda cracking along 1 edge.

There is an area of "high pressure" near the middle, where the windshield meets the hood. But it is also very turbulent air.

Forward facing louvers or vents would catch some air but at the cost of added drag.
Rear facing louvers tend to evacuate the engine bay. Think of the hood as half a venturi. Air rushing across the hood will tend to suck air out of the louvers.

Very good. And if one were to rake the hood slightly in the rear (say 1/4"-1/2') you should be able to pull hot air out of the engine compartment. That's one of this years temp reducing projects I'm working on.

1) Redline h20 wetter 2) Phenolic manifold gaskets 3) chilled intake path 4) TB bypass/chilling 5) hood rake

In theory, yes. There can be significant turbulence in that area though. Maybe you could tape some plastic streamers to the hood and go do a real world "wind tunnel" test to get an idea about where to make adjustments to the hood.

Maybe I just need to see it on a non-riced out Maxima? I can see from what you guys are saying it could potentially be functional, but the amount of holes in that hood seems overkill to me. (i.e. the 3 towards the front)

I have it, but its not on my car

Pics coming up next week.. have to find a way to transport the Predator hood (not Sarona's) from my warehouse to the shop.

BTW- Spoke to your Dad earlier this week. Your sideskirts went out. Sorry for the wait. I was MIA last month due to family reasons.

I talked to someone from Custom Maxima and Sarona, Not to helpful with information on their product.

Thay said, "Yea it's open, it'll let some air go through, but it's just for looks."

As for the water in the engine, they both said water gets in the engine bay anyway so "it's ok." I don't like their responce, i think i'll pass on that hood.

Ange, Send me some pictures of your hood and let me know whats going on with it.... Other than the lenght of time it took to get into contact with you about the sides, and the people at your shop that were avoiding my questions, I've got no problems with you specifically... We can still get this going.

Scott- I'll get some pics for you within these 3-4 days. My site was down and everything is in the process of transferring to another web hosting service. I have pics that I'll send you of Sarona's hood installed on a customer's ride on my home pc.

Flavor247- I had posted prototype pics of the hood a few months back. Now I have those hoods in stock but have to bring the hoods over from the warehouse and take pics of the finished product. 6-hole Predator hood in fiberglass.

what the problem with your engine and water? it get soaked every time it rains and you drive. i can see where you might think all that extra water and moisture might incease the chance of rust but hey.

I think they are afraid if they have open air filters and it can also get in the altenator.

The front 3 vents would let water and whatever you use to wash your car, run right down on the engine and parts in that area. By personal preference I'd rather not let that happen. The vent on the side looked like it was over the battery, another place i don't want water. Or it could also allow water right onto my intake, and no one wants to hydro-lock their engine.
