Subjective 3rd party poll about which gen max was/is best

It's just more pleasing to look at, though non-maxima owners would never be able to describe the difference, I suspect they would still pick the 97 over the 96 just because it looks "better."
oh for sure, but I dont know if they were soley basing their votes on looks if they had picked a 3rd gen over a 96 and if you had a 97 instead of the 96 that they would have changed their vote. if that makes any sense

Oh yeah a note on the 1st gens....watch out for those things....you might run into one with a SB Chevy in it and not even know it until you got your *** kicked. Total sleeper with all the rust spots!
And those who were wondering, not all 2nd gen's got the voice warning systems. The ones without em were known as floaters that came in through Panama or something like that. There's a whole story on that. :P

how about we take it to the track,
and yea that 4th gen looks fugly, they should have put up a 97-99 we might have a better chance. i had a 3rd gen also but i personaly like the 4th gen over all, even if the next 7 gen would come out im still sticking with the 4th gen.

Yeah, out of the 4th gens, I never liked the front and rear of the 95-96. I really like the 97-99's. Though I've really liked 5th gens, but that's me.
2nd and 3rd gens though will probably be one of my more favorite gens. They are what really gave the maxima the boost that need to be what they are now. 2nd gen with all the different options and features. 3rd gens for the styling and performance showing you don't have to go out and buy a BMW to have fun in a car.

bastards! eh...
3rd gens are a nice overall Maxima. People that I've talked to mostly agree the 3rd gen was great because it resembled a Lexus so much. It was at that point where Nissan flagship quality was on par with Luxury brands. Although people didn't know much about styling and just knew rough resemblance, this is what they thought it looked like:

it resembles a 2nd gen more than a 3rd.. but that's what peeps would compare it to. This is non-car enthusiast peeps, however.

geeeeez.
car looks badass.
i just love the 4th gen body. and i defintily agree with the tail lights getting killed after 4th gen comment, (i don't know which site it was one this, or the one with the poll) i was really surprised with the 3rd gen being the winner, but i can't judge cause i've never been in one, and i wasn't old enough to really know it when it was new. but it does look good for it's time, i just feel that the 4 gen can still look like a new car (fit in) today, where the 3rd gen is a little too boxy for today's standards.
3rd gen might have been the best Japanese car for sale in Model year '89, only competition was the Toyota Cressida which seems rare and I don't know much about them. Remember Lexus/Infiniti didn't start till '90. Overall it seems classy and conservatively sporty-sort of BMWish. Plus the early ones had digital dashes, sonic suspensions, keyless entry and 92 SE's had LSDs. All pretty rare equipment.
4th gen does deserve credit for the VQ being standard on all Maximas. I actually liked the rear end styling since it came out, but the 97 update probably is better. I still think the dash is classy and would look great in any brand, or any type of car.
5th gen 2k2 have HIDs, 255 HP, optional 6 speeds, optional LSD devices.
Basically they all rule. But in that pole, I think they used publicity shots, and the 92-94 SE had the best picture. But they could have used sportier pics of all of them: Crimzon blaze bright red 99 SE-L, Silver 2k3 titanium edition SE, bright red 92 SE.
