A little different twist on a well discussed subject.

Great find Jeff It is GOOD to see what others think. As I mentioned, everyone I ask (3rd party) prefers the 3rd gen handsdown.

Had they put a 97+ black SE up against a Black SE of every other generation the results may have been different.

Do however take that poll with a grain of salt, as VWVortex is well known to be one of the most idiot-filled message boards on the planet.

Yeah...seems to me as they put up ugly pics of just about all of them except the 6th gen. They really make the 3rd and 4th gen's look bad, though...they could have atleast used a 97+.

The pics were good .. . none of the pics made the cars look that bad. . . I think 3rd gens are great cars for their time, but heres a question for people with 3rd gens. . . .if someone offered a straight trade with you for a 5speed 1999 SE-L, with the condition taht you could not sell the car within 3 years, how many people would say no?

It seems as for the most part, 4th gen owners like 4th gens the best (even though many of them wish they could have afforded a 5th gen at the time of purchase). 5th gen owners like 5th gens the best naturally. Same goes with 3rd gen owners. . . who cares which one is the best, we all drive maximas, i always found the 3rd gen vs all argument foolish.

Some people just can't accept that 3rd gens look the best. Example look at the post above.

for a stock third gen or the one I currently own? if it was stock yes because its a newer car and I like the SE-l's but if it was between a brand new VE 5spd and a SE-L 5spd that was also brand new Id take the 3rd gen.

i'd bite....but only cause my car is worthless, so i'd sell the 99 (screw your rule) and buy another 3rd gen and keep the change

I own both, dont get me started. 3rd gen will always have my heart. I think those people were picking not based on looks BUT on the overall car and lets face it 3rd gen DID start it all 190hp DOHC...and the saga continues...

I think the best part is that everybody is making excuses for other people's personal preferences!

Screw the pics posted on vwv, look at the comments... "My parents/friends/etc had a 1/2/3/4/5 gen, I loved that thing"

Seems that everyone that had a comment had prior experience with them and wasn't basing it off just those pics.
As for who "wins"?! WHO THE HELL CARES?!?!

I'm just glad I like my car- and I could care less what everyone else thinks about it. If I did, I'd be driving a Mustang, since chicks dig guys with noisy V8s..

I loved the 2nd gens. My dad had an 88, it was an awsome car! I don't know why I liked it so much. The adjustable suspension, warning lights on the passenger side of the dash, etc.

I should have bought it when I had the chance.

I should buy a 2nd gen and swap a 4g drivetrain into it.

I have always been a fan of the maximas especially the 2nd gens..cause they talked to ya... But as the former owner of a 3rd gen and current owner of a 4th gen, I don't think I could choose. There are different things that I like about each car equally...if I could combine them I would in a heart beat. Independent rear suspension... with the 4th gen body and interior..with the 3rd gen stability and solid feel, oh...and lets not forget the VQ...can we say dream maxima?

Great Find! Who cares if they're idiots or not they still hold opinions. I like tinkgs about all generations 3rd and up! We could make one hell of a super-max if we combined the strong points! Anyhoo as long as its not a discussion of my generation is faster than yours I am happy!

Ive driven a 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th gen and driving wise I didnt notice a huge diff. between them. I'd pick the 3rd gen cause of looks really,

I do think the 5th gen has the best "user freindly" drivers space, I like how everything is right within my reach. And the 3rd gen interior seems somewhat outdated cause of the center console being too low in relation to the seats but its something I can live with

You are right, most people besides max owners dont know the difference between a 96 and 97 front end. HOWEVER, if you posted a poll on that website of simply the looks of 96 vs 97 maximas, I guarantee the 97 would win. It's just more pleasing to look at, though non-maxima owners would never be able to describe the difference, I suspect they would still pick the 97 over the 96 just because it looks "better."
