spec clutches

Any of you guys use a SPEC clutch on your Maxima? What are your thoughts on it if you do? I'm buying one for my 3rd gen turbo maxima and was curious if any of you guys (any generation at all) have ever used one. Thanks in advance!

SPEC clutches are great, though I didn't know they made one for maximas. The Fbody guys I know just love the stage II SPEC. I think you'll be well pleased with it.

they make them for maximas however i bought one for the 84-86 300zx since it was cheaper and holds more torque than the one made for the maxima. i wanted maximum holding power but with the ability to still drive it on the street so i bought the stage 3. 4 or 6 puck sprung hub disc and heavy duty pressure plate that will hold 515 ft lb of torque...

Do the flywheel bolts line up with the 300zx clutch or are you going to have to do some re-drilling?

yeah, its a race disc with a sprung hub that allows for less harsh engagement.

I currently have the stageII kevlar clutch and love it. The engagement is smooth like butter. That coupled with the Fidanza makes it really nice.

i've heard from some guys that the pedal feel was better than stock and a centerforce clutch kit. what do you guys think of the pedal feel (pressure)?

i've got the stage I in my cobra and one or more fingers on the pressure plate is either bent or something, or isn't fully disengaging from the throwout bearing becuase I get harsh pedal vibration/chatter at idle and a little while cruising. Its extremely annoying and is going to wear out my T-O bearing faster. I don't know if this is a deal with SPEC, or if my tranny shop F'ed up, but the tranny shop is denying it of course.

Ive got a stageII and the pedal feel is probably same or lighter than stock for some reason. Which Im not complaining about, I like the lighter pedal feel. I checked Jay25's max who is running the ACT and the pedal is at least 2-3x harder.

If it is a problem with SPEC, their warranties are very good. I'm one of their distributors, and anytime anyone has had a problem with a clutch, they've taken care of it. But the unfortunate part is, you'd have to find out if your tranny shop is to blame or SPEC.

Ya, how on earth do I do that?? They have told me its normal with spec clutches (tranny shop) so they would just deny it.

isn't that clutch a stage 4? i'm pretty sure the stage 4 clutches have the solid hub like yours whereas stage 3 only has spring hub like mine. (unless its an older model or something and they changed it all since then)

ic? i have one... just have to install it

the 300zx turbo clutch and pressure plate does fit the maxima flywheel so all maxima's 85-99 should be able to use this clutch

actually, that's how any stage clutch comes for my car, since the spring is in the flywheel not the hub. legends have a dual mass flywheel, that's why we can't shave it down, but i think a guy is working with spec to get a lightweight flywheel produced for the legend. the reason you see a 6-puck vs 4-puck is that was also an option for the stage 3, the 6-puck is a little more forgiving.
