Charging System: Battery vs. Alternator, correct voltage?

Guys,

When I checked the voltage of my battery terminals with engine running at idle (800rpm, Unorthodox pulley installed), the multimeter shows 14.38volt.

After the engine off for sometime, the measured voltage across the battery terminal is 11.85 volt.

What's the correct voltage for each condition when the charging/recharging system works perfect? (stock pulley is fine)

Thank you!

Your voltage with the car running sounds allright. It could vary from high 13's to high 14's depending on the condition of you alternator, so with a 14.38 you are doing fine.

Now with the engine off it should be 12.5-12.6 volts.

Does your car start with the battery at 11.85? Looks like you need a new battery since its not holding its charge. If you delay changing the battery for too long you could fry you alternator eventually.

Get the battery tested.

Adroga,

Awesome. You've got me what I needed. I will check my battery voltage the next time I start the car then.

I know it should not go below 12volts....

I believe the lower value from the alternator (14.38) is because it was with the UDP pulley (non-stock size).

Thank you!
