I usually dont park my car in my driveway since its a steep hill. Is there any possible way to cause damage to something by parking your car on a steep hill all the time? I dont want to park along the house anymore since my hit and run incident. Also, do the manual people leave there cars in gear while parked? For the 3 months of driving manual, I have been leaving it in neutral. Someone told me that they leave it in 1st or reverse depending if the hill is up or down. Thanks.

my driveway isn't steep, but it is enough to roll the car back. I just put up my parking brakes... i dunno, i never got the habit of putting it into 1st gear unless I am really parked on a steep hill.


I see no problems if you leave your car parked up there all the time. When you roll up the driveway, hit the brakes, and put up the parking brake. Then before you get out, put it into 1st gear that way the weight of the car would be stopped by the brakes instead of your tranny.

press brake, pull up the e-brake, release main brake, allow car to settle so the e-brake actually holds it, put your car in gear/parking depending on your transmission. so now you don't force your transmission to hold 3000lbs of car all the time.

My driveway is also a steep incline. I have been in the habit of keeping the car in gear + parking brake for many years, have never seen any adverse effects from doing this.

also turn the steering wheel so if it does roll it wont be in the other side of the street

dont try to get up a steep driveway when its snow covered. I learned that last year. Going backwards in drive... it was bad. Just thought I'd throw that piece of advice out

Precisely... My parents have parked in our driveway (nearly a 45* angle, seriously) for 25 years w/o problems. Just put the pressure on the brake, not the tranny. Same applies for an auto - ebrake, then into Park.
