Hi all. i'm a looking to purchase a 02 SE. looks like i can get one of those for about $17-18k with about 30k or so miles on it. are there any problem areas to look for at a test drive? any other comments appreciated. thanks

Welcome, as a fellow newbie i just purchased a 2002 Max SE 6 speed and did some homework like yourself. I checked the brakes for uneven braking (some folks complained about the rotors). Other than the clutch action, i really did not have to worry about anything else. There are a couple recalls that you can check to see if your car was done by calling Nissan (Nissanusa.com for #'s). You can also do carfax to check if its been in an accident or other things. Make sure it was taken care of (oil changes, service work). you should be able to find a car in that price range, i paid 15k at a dealer w/50k miles, but i also had service records of every oil change since new. Im on my 3rd Max and this model is by far the best overall. Somepeople crybaby about the torque steer, for me its refreshing a family car has power from the front of the car!!! I wish it had a little more.
Last, check your Bose stereo if you have it, some units can skip or have problems and dont park your car in bad neighborhoods due to HID envy (stolen).Good luck and have fun!

Well, these cars have had probs with the mass air flow sensor going bad. Other than that I think it is a solid car for the money. Ive had two 2k2's and only had a MAF problem once, and no other problems.
