Hood pins on cf hood?

I have a grey lustre 01 Maxima and recently installed a carbon fiber oem hood. It looks real clean but can hardley tell it's a cf hood. I was thinking...should I put on hood pins to stand out or is that to ricey?

I think they need to be on there to provide a bit more safety (to keep from flying off during highway runs)...

i dont think hood pins would be rice, especially when they have a good function. i have one on the way, and will not think twice about using them.

what are you using to keep the hood open ?

I thought hood pins were highly suggested with cf hoods... what does the hood manufacturer recommend?

Do that.

I'd definitely reccomend getting a hood pin for that c/f hood. I've heard stories of hoods flying up on the highway. I know that it's happened to 1 or 2 people here on the org when the c/f hood first came out.

As a person who has destroyed a cf hood and a windshield for forgetting hoodpins(sorry again thebigsadler), they are definitely good to have on a CF hood. A lot of the hoods out there just aren't made well enough to latch properly all the time. They can flip open at 15-20mph and will wreck a windshield very easily.

Get the captive pin type if you decide to get them. It's still too easy to forget them in your pocket after tuning. It's not a rice thing as long as they aren't those terrible glue on fake pins.

Well, the hood made by VIS latches as well as the factory hood did; I mean that sh*t locks in good. I guess I'll hold off on hood pins and go for a street scene grill.

You're walking on egg shells. I would never put my trust in the latch hook holding. I've seen the hook rip off the hood itself on a couple Hondas with CF hoods at the track.

I plan on getting a CF hood in the spring and I'll definately use hood pins. Has anyone ever seen black anodized captive hood pins? I don't want the hood pins to be obvious.

so the hood latches good... big deal. What about when the c/f splits and separates from the frame and peels off and comes up to smash your windshield?

I love it when people ask for advice but really they're looking to have their opinion backed-up. Five replies all said "get them for safety" and his answer is "the sh*t locks good, I'll wait."

Then why did you ****ing ask?

BTW, here are the hoodpins you'll use after you trash the hood and need to hold it on while you're waiting for another one to come ...

I had a hard time finding black anodized hood pins. I think I ended finding them but not in time. Also the base was still not anodized. What about painting the whole assembly the same color as the car?

get some sparco pins off of ebay, Ive had mine on for about a year and a half and they still work great. My hood is good quality but I still use the pins, why take a chance with a $500+ hood and a $125 windshield ?

Its funny because you made up your mind against what everybody said in this thread, why post then? everybody said to use the pins, even one guy who forgot to and paid the price, there only 25 or 30 bucks, just get them.

I've also been looking for black anodized pins for my VIS hood. I too dont want them standing out too much. Does anyone know where we can find these?

As for whether to use pins, for the minimal cost of them it is well worth it, instead of taking a chance. Everyone I know that has a cf hood has pins.
