Do you ever get tired of shifting?

I usually enjoy every minute of driving my car, but today it was just so weird. It wasn't even on that much of heavy traffic just average driving, and I was getting really annoyed with my 5 spd I just wanted to leave the car on 3rd gear and just leave it there the whole time
I guess I'm jut getting old. What about you guys?

I do especially in situations like that. Going 30-31 in 3rd gear and having to slow down a bit and having to downshift, stuff like that. I have a 6 spd so we shift even more than you 5 speeders. It's all good when I hit the highway though.

Driving on the 5 just south of LA during rush hour is a pain in the rear... sometimes I wish I had an automatic... or a limo with a driver.

wait till you drive around a crappy automatic that doesn't shift into the proper gears when you slow for a stop sign and try to pull away in 3rd after slowing to 2-3mph.. by the time you give it enough gas that the ecu says "oh.. downshift, duh!", then it drops to 1st at 20mph and barks the front tires..

stupid nissan automatics.

took a job working from home.. it has good and bad points. Not having to drive is a good point... never getting to drive is a bad point.

Only one time in the two months that I've owned my Maxima have I been frustrated with the fact that I had to shift: When I had to get from stopped to rolling along slowly repeatedly on I-45/59 South in Downtown Houston where the highway is on an incline, and tilted to the right, with heavy traffic. That really sucked a fat one.

I get tired of the on/off nature of the factory clutch. My factory clutch has 104K miles on it and it's perfect for racing because it grabs hard and very quick, but around town it's too hard modulate and gets annoying.

I never do and I probably drive more than just about anyone on the boards. It is natural to me and when I drive in other cars that are autos I feel weird.

I don't own a 5 speed but I can imagine I would get tired of shifting in traffic and when I'm hungover.

I know how you feel. Every time I start up any other car in my house, I'm always kicking the dead petal with my left foot, and wondering where on earth the clutch went.

When I was driving my Dad's 2000 SE 5spd around a few months ago as a daily, I would get tired of dealing with the clutch, so I just wouldnt use it, well, except to start.

Nope, not ever. Besides, it builds good leg muscles in traffic if you have an aftermarket clutch.

as much as i get tired of driving 5-speed once in a while, everytime i drive an automatic i hate when if i'm cruising in 4th and give the car a little extra gas, all of a sudden the computer downshifts. little things like that make me plenty happy with shifting myself

i usually leave it in 2nd in my auto between heavy traffic. don't really shift into 3rd until 40mph+, then 4th until 60mph+. never get tired of shifting cuz i don't have a clutch

don't you wish you knew the power of automagic?

The only time I don't like my manaul is when I have to take off on a hill and someone is 6" from my rear bumper. I hate it when I have to use the parking brake or clutch to take off (so I don't roll back at all). I'd rather let the car roll back a little.

after driving my 2k1 auto for 3 years before I got rid of it for my car now, i'd say I will never get tired of shifting a manual

3 years of wanting/dreaming/pretending I had a manual.......

in the morning when i get in the car, i am so happy to throw it to the right and down...just makes it feel like a toy that i'm in control of. As i hit random stop lights on my main street to school and i see a quick opening to get into a faster lane i'm so happy that i can downshift and jump right in. But when i go to NY and traffic is bumper to bumper and u stuck doing 10 mph every 10 seconds, it freaking sucks man. I try to let car roll but traffic seems to always move when my car isnt....grrrr

late 80's/early 90's vette's had 4 + 3, 7 speed transmissions, not quite sure if they were manual or automatic, but my guess is manual, pretty interesting

I thought about that when I bought my 02 Max in 02. I did not like the idea of getting a 6 speed. My previous Max was a 5 speed. Since I am getting older, I decided to try the automatic for a change. I don't regret it one bit in the 2 years I have owned the car. I still drive a 5 speed 95 KingCab though. It was/is not the shifting as much as my leg getting fatigued when holding the pedal down in stop and go traffic.

I get tired of shifting all the time Danny. Park, foot on the brake, press the button then into reverse. Foot on the brake again, and into drive. Sure does suck sometimes.
