Go Greyhound!

Not kidding here.....they are usually fairly cheap. But I think their box limits would only allow for one wheel, so that's 4 boxes.

Usually, you're looking at $80 to $100 for shipping.....I think it was more like $50 or $60 going Greyhound....and a LOT safer than UPS.....

Just a thought.....

Never shipped rims before but... stay away from UPS if you are worried about damaging the rims.

I worked in a computer warehouse for a year and I was in charge of shipping and receiving merchandise. We used UPS and FedEx mostly... but didn't really like UPS. Imagine throwing a box with three laptops onto a truck. That's about close to $5000 worth of merchandise and the driver mishandled the boxes like crazy. Once, a new guy, placed a box on the floor and stepped on it to get something on the top shelf.

And they also lost two boxes... and another time, shipped it to Alaska when it was bound for Florida.

Here's what I would do:

Place two tires with the outside of the rims facing each other and put a thick piece of cardboard in between them (about 1/4", use two pieces bound together if need be), then get some 1" wide fiber reinforced tape and put 4 pieces of tape on the 2 wheels/tires, one at 12 oclock, one at 6 oclock, one at 3 oclock and one at 9 oclock. Even better than tape is if you get some plastic banding material. Then once the two wheels/tires are tightly bound into one piece, put another piece of thick cardboard on the outer sides of the bundle, then stretch wrap or tape them and even UPS won't be able to damage them. You can opt for thin wood or fiberboard as an alternative for the outer sides for extra protection. And you could put bubble wrap directly on top of the outside of each wheel as an additional cushioning device, you'll have to figure out a way to tape it on somehow.

Good luck. Oh, insure them and take pictures of the wheels prior to wrapping and after wrapping so they won't come back and say improper packaging if you have to file a claim.
