I must have the most played out car on the org. I never see any of you ****'s though, so I am keeping it just the way it is.

 

i think that when people try so hard to keep this sleeper look with their cars. i think thats really played out. stock rims and the adding all this other stock stuff to their cars so they can try to be a se or something. its like every car on this forum looks alike even with all the mods they get. people should get some personality and not be afriad of wat others thing and mod the car how u feel like it.

 

How about 95-96 converted to 97-99.....you know front bumpers and such.

 

It's true ...the Stillen kit is the only one that is conservative to my taste...

 

clear bumper lights (for some colors anyway) shaving is kinda not worth it anymore.. and oh yeah painting your brakes any color .. double if it the color begins with "neon"

is it a light ? is it in the bumper ? bumper light, turn signals , bumper lens blah blah what ever you wanna call it it still borderline played

basically I look at the 1/4 times...

nealoc at 13.98 with MEVI
vqdriver at 14.05 without MEVI + a heavier car than nealoc
ceasarschariot at 14.1xx without MEVI

and i see a whole lot of MEVI folk up in the mid 14s...im not saying that it doesnt help...just doesnt help enough for $600 IMO...With all the mods I have put in I have only spent $700ish in go fast mods...that knocked .4 sec off...im not willing to spend $600 for .1....If I had the money...I want ECU, struts/springs, body kit, leather, and N20 before MEVI(75 shot=mid to high 13s...and we all know the Max will eat it up).

I think the Pfinder TB seems to be like better money spent...200-300 bucks and I think I saw a dyno with a guy with basic boltons , ECU, and TB putting 199hp at the ground.

I'd like to continue this discussion Dave...no flaming...just rebute my opinions...

aluminum dash kits. 90% of them don't even fit right. they are all copies of the few that actually look good. so when everyone tries to make em this is where it goes to.

The 1/4 mile is not everything....an MEVI equiped max will walk away from a USIM at any highway speed.

Even so, I have seen a 14.1 and 99mph traps with the MEVI, JWT ECU, Y-pipe and intake. That is all my mods, no UDP, no catback or anything. Neal has seen 101mph traps with the same mods and no NA max can touch that right now. My car is not heay but heavier than the other 3 you mentioned. Ceaser is fast because he can drive like a bat out of hell and his car is light w/ really light rims.

The PF TB is not really a proven mod, although I have the mounting bracket and am looking for the TB as we speak. The only dyno I know of is a 3rd gen with a bored out TB that saw like 6hp and a few lbs of torque. No 4th gen has been proven to make power with the pathfinder TB.....but I am still going to do it.

black maxes look good with clear lenses.. white ones can get get away with orange ones even PB maxes. its all about contrast.. all in all the new smoked ones look very nice.

Fart Cans, Melon Launchers...whatever you want to call them. A muffler with a 5-6" outlet does not make your 120 hp 4 cyl car faster.

 

Fake dual exhaust's, Hyper whites, indiglo's, mirror tint, angel eyes on non-bmw's, and not a mod but 240's are played out.

 

After I learned the truth, I wish I hadn't spent money on an intake. I did better by getting the VI.

 

Intake, and people who think the MEVI is a waste of money.

 

I think what they don't understand is that the 2000+ Maximas all have VI's in them hence the added power up top.

 

Trap speeds is all I will say. A MEVI without the JWT ECU isn't worth it if all you're looking for it 1/4 mile ET. So you can add all the bolt ons you want but without quite a bit of weight reduction you will never get much better than 14.4's @ 95-96mph without MEVI and ECU. Pretty much every MEVI owner with ECU will blister that trap speed and if they can drive beat that time.

 

And the ones that think its a waste of money only look at 1/4 mile ET's as if thats all that matters.

 

Amen. With traction, the MEVI/JWT ECU has crushed all NA records (13.6@101mph). Using VQDriver and Ceasar as a basis for non-Mevi equipped 4th gen performance really isn't an accurate comparison because they're the only two that have pulled those kinds of numbers and they run gutted cars on sea level tracks. 99% non-MEVI 4th gens are in the 14.5-14.7@94-96mph range. A majority of the 5 speed MEVI/JWT ECU Maximas have shown 14.1-14.4@98-100mph performance. Anyway you cut it, the MEVI/JWT ECU car will be quicker assuming the same driver and track.

imho i think altezzas, aftermarket emblems, and rear roof spoilers are played out, i think those roof spoilers make it look like the car is wearing a backwards hat...im not a fan

 

the stillen lip is not big at all, its lightweight and trim and not too flashy.

alot of this stuff seems played out because everyone is condensed in here, but on the street, I would say putting 20's on a maxima just to say you have 20's, sure they can look good with the right rim on the right car but just to have big rims, played out around me.

altezzas? ehh they dont really bother me too much.

as far as around here I cant think of any one mod, except the big rim thing mentioned above.

Gotta agree. Carbon fiber for looks only gets a thumbs down from me. And don't try and tell me that your carbon fiber valve cover saves you 20 grams and is therefore functional. Puhleeze.

 

Doesn't the term "played out" mean it's something everyone is doing and is getting old? Like Coolmax said, this thread has turned into what's good and what's bad.

I guess I really don't think anything is really played out because if it looks good, then it looks good. Some parts work for certain cars and some don't and that's up to the owner to decide. Some owners have good taste and some have questionable taste. I could also really care less about what some guy with $20K in mods for his Maxima thinks about my Maxima. This is my car, not his. I am getting a little sick of certain Cali guys acting as if they belong to some special order because they're running ambers instead of clears. In reality they're just following the current import trend towards "JDM" amber signals.

Toylet, I don't think that Angel Eyes are played out on non-BMW's.

 

Blue bulbs in corners and signals, GTR Emblems, chrome Altezzas, tacky aftermarket foglights.

 

Once again, you guys are missing the point. This thread is about played out mods, not mods that you happen to dislike. Man...

For instance, I happen to like the way the stillen front lip looks on a Maxima. But it is played out cus everyone has it.

Conversely, I happen to hate the Trenz grille with the stupid bar coming down the middle. But it isn't really played out...

 

Evo 5s on Maximas, Passats, whatever. i see them too often. Trendz grille also.

 

"Played out" means it used to be cool, but now everyone does it, so it's not cool. You guys have to consider scope here...

If your scope is maxima.org, pretty much everything will eventually be "played out" as more people get it. There's not a huge variety of things we can do to our cars, so when you see 50 other Maximas on the .org with a Stillen kit, you think it's played out.

But if you consider the rest of the population, nothing is played out when it comes to Maximas. Outside of meets, I've only seen maybe 1/2 dozen Maximas with any body kit, let alone the Stillen kit on a 4th gen. And I'd hardly consider two or three instances of a Stillen kit on a 4th gen to constitute "played out".
njmaxseltd has a black marble dash kit. I've seen it in person, and although I generally regard dash kits as ricey, I'd consider getting the black marble. It looked great... subtle and classy.
