the headers

So no one has ever shown an appreciable gain from headers, right?

Let me throw out a theory: this is because no one has ever applied headers to a maxima without some other weaknesses of greater significance.

shorty headers would theoretically improve engine output at high rpms. has anyone ever tested them on a car with intake, mevi, cams, y pipe, and catback? not that I know of. I suspect that there could be some gains, but they are not realised when installed in a car that runs out of breath by 5500 rpm; I've seen only dynos of cars with intake, y pipe, and headers. Can the exhaust flow improvement of headers show through a restricted exhaust? How much more exhaust flow can be useful behind the stock intake plenums and manifold? I'm not surprised that the headers are of little worth on a nearly stock engine.

what do you think?

I think with my set up of the MEVI and 7200 redline I stand to see decent gains and will most likely get headers in the near future....I just hope that a dyno is posted soon that proves me right so I don't have to be the one to buy and dyno the headers to find out I am wrong.

If you could feel the inside surface of the stock exhaust manifold you will see how the headers improve exhaust flow.

The stock feels like a rough sand paper and the aftermarket ones ceramic coated feel so smooth, almost like a toilet

The toilet is the first thing I think of when I'm thinking of something smooth...

middle east maximas are equipped with a variable intake manifold that can be bolted on to the 4th gens since they lack that feature. I'm not going to go into what it does. MEVI (midde east variable intake)

don't worry, 5th gens have a VI already

Then what good are his headers and cams if they increase the power in the mid to high range and the VQ can't breath?

I think he is going with the USIM to regain some of the mid/low range power loss the cams cause. The cams may let his car maintain decent power to redline. That way his is making more constant power throught the powerband instead of just crazy highend like it showed in his dyno.
