Noisy Guages!!!!!
I just got the new Indiglo guages (4 day shipping to Canada, wow!), and installed em. They look SWEEEEEEEEEET .. No problems with the guages blocking the needles, etc... HOWEVER, the little box that controls the things is noisy as hell! It hums it's stupid little tune whenever it's on. I've checked the power & ground, and it doesn't look like it's easily fixable. Anyone know if it's possible?
>> I just did some more fiddling, and the noise gets LOUDER, and higher pitched when you turn it to the brightest & most coloured shades. (ie, bright blue, or bright green. bright greenie-blue doesn't make a noise at all.)

a few questions for you
1. do you hear it when DRIVING?
2. where did u place the controller box?
3. power and ground connections MUST be good, no shoddy connections.
4. is this with no key in? and no power and just lights on? well. what do u expect when nothing else in the car is on, and with the lights on. if the key is in there with the lights on, the car will ding ding ding.
well. i hope its not an annoyance to the point where its unbearable.. if you STILL have a problem,
a few layers of soft packaging foam will do the trick.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check the ground & power tommorow again.
Is there anyone on here with pics. Oh wait nevermind doesn't Cheston have some on maximadriver.com? I'm really interested in these since my friend got them in his Accord. I just don't know if I want to change the look. Oh well of I go looking around.
damn
what is up wiht these gauges that initial k has made for our cars? everybody is having problems with them! i just got mines today and planning to install it this weekend but i gotta rethink that cuz mostly everybody is having problems with them. they should have made holes in the gauges to put the screws back on again so they stay flat and does not interfere with the needles but oh well some stupid designing.
Cheston answered your question on another thread http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....threadid=27855 I guess the GXE, GLE owners have screws while the SE owners don't. Interesting. I honestly think they should make two seperate ones. That's just me though.

After my first install, I did notice my tach sticking a bit but that was my own fault. I was too excitied and instead of going out to buy double-sided tape, I used regular scotch tape and rolled it over. It caused the middle to bulge out a bit and that's when I noticed the tach was sticking. After "sacraficing" and going out to buy the double-sided tape, I didn't have any problems. Just make sure you place it in the middle (next to the needle) to ensure that that area doesn't bulge out.
As for the "noise" coming from the box... Sheesh, I didn't notice it until someone posted the message that there was a "buzzing" noise coming from the box. And seriously, the only time I can hear it is when my car is off and the parking lights are on. Maybe I just have a lousy sense of hearing.
My biggest problem was this. I don't know about you guys but I have a wife who can't "appreciate" all the different things you can do to a car to make "improve it." That evening after I finished the installation, we went out for dinner and after I turned on my lights (and knowing there was a slight chance she might not notice), she glanced over at the gauges after about a mile.
"Honey, why are your gauges blue? Did you do something else to the your car?"
"Blue? Hon, they've always been that way. I just didn't have the dimmer turned up." I proceed to turn down the gauges do that they're barely noticable. "See hon, now, isn't that what they looked like before?"
She responds, "oh yeah, I guess you're right. Wow, that blue tint looks nice. I'm surprised you never turned it up before."
Anyways, the gauges are great in my opinion. And I still can't make up my mind which of the six colors I like the best (I purchased the digital controlled one).
i dont get why people like to ***** n moan so much. yeah given they're the first ever production set of gauges for our cars and they have some slight problems, but i mean. heck, these kick ***.
i mean. tell me what version 1.0 of ANYTHING was perfects.? *cough* *cough* cattmanypipe *cough* *cough* *eibach springs* *cough**cough* *cattman coilovers*
well. jsut to let you know. initial k is working on fixing the problem. (wasnt them. it was the manufacturer in Taiwan) and hopefully they will continue bringing more goodies for us.
its just the 95-97 gauges that have some issues. 98/99 styles are prefect.

Question
hey chebosto...i emailed you but i dont know if you checked it or not but i wanted to ask you that if i could just glue the gauges on top of the old ones instead of putting double sided tape. this would help the gauges to stay more flatter and not interfere with needles. let me know what you think...thanx
I ordered my gauges monday and got them wednesday in ny (fassssst!!) I put them in wed night and they look sooooo hot. Wow, I love them. You guys gotta be kidding me complaining about the digital controller. I can hardly hear it with the car off and once the engine's on you definately can't hear it, let alone once you turn on the radio. The only problem I had was that the speedometer is sticking (actually it's stuck) but i think that's because I also have the import intelligence white face guage stickers on top of my stock gauges and then the indiglos on top of that! This weekend I'm going to remove the needles and actually take out the old gauges so that it's just the indiglo gauges, that way there won't be any sticking.
BUY THESE GAUGES. YOU'LL LOVE THEM!!

bleah..
We're just *****in' cause we spent 90 bucks and we can drive 220mph, at 1.5k rpm, and they managed to forget the 100, 140 and 180 mph numbers on the guages, all while managing to use 4 marks, and 5 marks, on different sections of the tach.
.. All while listening to a fun engine-noise like whistling noise coming from behind the guages =P ....
Seriously, they look awesome. In fact, I took afew girls out in the car last night, and the one sitting behind my shoulder was like "Damn, I love the lights on the car?" .. I said "Headlights?" and she said "No, Speedometer ones" .. I was like yeeeah yeah, I just put em in. I fixed the tach today, and I found the engine noise isn't at all noticeable while driving (Thanks to the stillen muffler) .. I actually have louder engine noise from my stereo system due to a ground loop. So, in essence, I only have to complain about the km/mph goofup, and the fact I don't have the 100/140/180 km numbers on the guage. Nothing major, I was just expecting perfection for my 90 bucks and I think that was stupid on my part.
