earlier today, i was on my way home from playin some tennis. it was a fairly nice day here in houston. on my way home, i pull up behind a white mustang cobra convertable with five people in the left turn lane at a light. the driver was bangin his loud subs and talkin on his cell. he didnt notice me behind him at the light but i thought to myself "if i floor it and pass him, maybe he'll show how "great" his car is to his passenger friends." so i do. the light turns green and i stay on his *** on the turn. right when i have room, i try to pass and when im 3/4 carlength behind him in the next lane, i pop it in second and start moving forward. when im about 1/2 a car in front, he guns it and i hear his v8 roar into second gear. to my suprise, he didnt pull on me at all. we stayed side by side till about 70ish then my radar goes off like mad so i slow it down to speed limit, so does he(he had a radar too). i was really suprise that he didnt pull on me, but after thinkin about it, i thought it could be possible. i had less then a quarter tank of gas and by myself. he had a automatic, convertable, a total of five people in his car, and his system. so im assuming his car could have been lugging an extra 1000 pounds. screwing the technicalities, i hung with a mustang cobra!

o yeah, im all stock.

 

Automatic Cobra? Is that possible? I thought they only come with a 5speed stick? Now, put 5 passengers in your car and race him again

 

I raced a s/c cobra with costom after cooler at the track friday. I ran 14.6 and he ran 15.7 at ahh 113mph(little bit of tire spin) I even red lighted on perpose to get a head start. But later that night I was watching from inside the tower and watched he go 12.6@116mph. Yikes..

actually, im not sure if it was auto or 5spd. im making the assumption that it was an auto because the whole time, he was on his phone. it could have been a 5spd.. dunno...

 

it is easier to gain on cars, 2nd and third gear pull hard. but when launching, a stall converter can launch cars out 5-10 car lengths on you.(if they are equiped) first gear is low, so concentrate on shifting at redline and pull till you gain on him and pass him if your able. this is reality.

 

1. Mustang Cobras only comes with 5-speed stick.

2. You said the race shuts down at 70, therefore he was on 2nd gear the whole time. That's why you did not see him shift.

3. He has 4 passengers, you have none and has an empty tank.

4. He has a convertible, which weights around 200-300#s more than a coupe.

So don't get too cocky.

 

so it's a 5spd, so he only stayed in second gear, so he had four passengers, so what? he "run what he brung" and i stayed on him the whole time. i know he's hella lot faster than me if we were in a racing environment. he decided to play along with me and he didnt pull on me. im not being cocky but overly excited that i could hang with one of the teenage white rich guys who never had to work a day in there life and buys whatever they want with their daddy's credit card. there are so many of them where i live in their Z28s and cobras. i knew i would have a better chance on this guy since his cobra was a convertable and he had 4 passengers.

 

Hey man, I have your back. If you race you race if you lose no excuses. I have won over many rustangs at the track. They normaly run low 14s depending on driver some can hit high 13s. And if I cant get them my friend can back me up with his Jetta(being a 4-door). After his new clutch should be well in the 12s. So like you say run what you brung.
