New Maxima Competition??!!
New 2005 Toyota Avalon
http://www.thecarconnection.com/inde...&sid=178&n=158
Then again, its just a VERY ugly Toyota AVALON. Doubt it will have any type of performance to it besides the 270hp. I never knew what to make of that car. Just a wanna be Lexus/Maxima/Camry.

Well whatdaya know.... Toyota finally decided to get off their *** and give Nissan and Honda some competition in the horsepower war... And yes, that car is beyond hideous, the headlights go more than half way up the hood to the windshield... could you only imagine a front shot...
And gotta love those taillights, which from the side look like a current generation Honda Civic sedan's taillights...
again

At first I wasn't feeling the 6th Gen Max. But it grew on me.
At first, I'm not feeling this Avalon/Prius.
I think Japanese automakers are creating lower standards in us so that when they unleash some supercars down the road everybody will jump on them.

Man, CGI guys. Avalon probably wont look anything like that....
That literally is a stretched Prius w/ minor tweaks, look at the rims, their just blown up Prius rims. Man, you guys are gullable!!
Oh, btw, i doubt they'll use a 3.5L, which they currently dont have in their stable of motors. They will either use a 3.0L DI V6 with around 240hp (i.e. new GS300 and mor likely) or the newer 3.3L with around 220hp.

Toyota is so big and has so much money that they can do pretty much anything they want to. They're not necessarily always looking at the bottom line and economies of scale like Honda or especially Nissan is who are both much smaller, and in Nissan's case still financially recovering. If Toyota isn't happy with how they compare to their competition, they've been known to significantly revamp cars after only 1 year in production. The 5th gen Camry is now on its 3rd V6/auto powertrain combination in only 3 years of production as an example.
I think it's a safe bet that the Avalon will be seeing a 3.5L, but we'll see.

Note: When Toyota wanted to enter NASCAR, they didn't have an old style pushrod V8. So they did a study on all the current nascar V8s and then went ahead and engineered one from scratch. Uh, yeah, I *THINK* they have some money!
