After getting smoked by a 5speed SHO last summer in my 95auto, I have been very cautious about racing another one. Tonight I was coming back from the store and I pulled up to a newer SHO at a light, only now I have a 995speed so I thought what the hell. I could see it was a younger kid so I thought he might be game for a quick race. I looked at him and gave the engine a quick punch. He sat down him his seat and gave a quick rev also, so now I knew that he had a 5speed and not a auto, so I was a little worried. When the light turned green we both made pretty darn good starts. I got a little jump in first but he made a darn quick shift into second and gained that back. We were pretty much dead even until I hit 3500 in second and I started to pull some, I got a great shift into third and got about half a car on him. After I hit about 75 I figured it was time to call it quits and I lifted off the gas. He then suprised me when pulled up to me and smiled and gave a thumbs up!! IT's not common for somebody to be that polite after getting beat. I think he knew we were pretty evenly matched and was just happy to give it a try and have fun.

Sounds like a sweet race. Good job. When you say newer SHO, I assume you mean the GEN II's (92-95), not the 96 and later ones that were eg shaped (oval rear window). They only came in auto's. That probably would not have been as good of a race though. Later.

Sometimes when I'm shifting fast, it's hard to **** 2nd to 3rd with the short throw. Anyone ever notice that?

Yes it was a v-6 SHO not the newer v-8. Those v-8 SHO's sound great but are slower than you might think. That yamaha v-6 is a gem of an engine.

I never seem to have a problem with 2-3, it's the 1-2nd shift that gets me for some reason. You have to time it pretty good to get it quick.

Actually, they are exactly as quick (or slow) as I was thinking And yes, the V6 is a gem. I am trying to build up a stockpile. Might make a good investment.
