Depends on your insurance. I think if you have glass coverage or something, you get like 1 free windshield a year. If your insurance doesn't give it for free, they'll make you pay the deductible. If your deductible is too much, just get it done without the insurance company since it'll be cheaper.

I used safelite (http://www.safelite.com/repair/repairindex.jsp) to repair mine. The repair was covered by my insurance with no deductible to pay. They repair cracks if it is out of the driver's line of site and it can be covered completely with a dollar bill. The repair prevents the crack from becoming bigger but it will still be visible.
