With $32K ... Max or TL?

What will you choose if you have $32k ... our favorite spanking new Max or the 04 TL? Be honest :-)

if u are picking auto, i say TL-S. I like the body better than the new maxima and it has some *****. I just hate that it only comes in auto except i think the new concept sports type one. Other than that the TL-S is a very good choice in my book.

I'd take the TL . . . HOWEVER: I would take a G35 6speed (4door) over both.

If looks don't matter, the TL.

If looks do matter, the TL.

If handling doesn't matter, the TL.

If handling does matter, the TL.

The Maxima is one ugly car made in TN. That's where Maytag customer service is too. In a test of 12 sport sedans, Maxima came in last, 12th. There is not one good thing I've heard about the 2k4 Maxima.

The TL looks great. It's got good handling. The only achilles heel is it's FWD. Otherwise, another win for Acura, but that's nothing new.

The big difference between Acura and Nissan is the Nissan buyer is used to being able to squeeze blood from stones at the dealership, and the 350Z is no exception. That's why the resale is non-existent. Going to an Acura dealer is like training to one day buy a BMW. They're not going to budge off the list price much-if you get a crazy deal, and we all know there's no such thing anyway, you might get $800 off list on a TL. So in reality, pricewise, they are not comparable, because Maxima has never sold for anywhere near list.

Not sure why the other guy said a TL doesn't come in a 6-spd manual, of course it does. It can even have 8" rims from the factory, but 17". They probably listen too much to this forum and thought the 18's would throw the odometer off and weigh too much....

they dont have a type S in 04, but its much smoother than the 03 type-S and its slightly quicker, they do have a 6 speed, you might want to look into that, its blazing fast, and its a very well done car, im not font of the exterior but it beats the heck out of the 04 max which i think is pretty hideous

If it was me, a G35. But since your asking between a '04 Max or TL, I would go for the TL.

G35 is the way to go.

yeah it comes in an option for stick this year, gotta order it, theres not alot of them made, they used to come in auto with sequential sport shift, but now they have both, pretty good if you ask me, about time, as for the comment about not paying above 30 for a FWD, true, id probalby go with the G35, i havnet driven it but is the ride real harsh, my friend drove the TL and the G35 and he said the ride was pretty harsh, but the car is very very quick and powerful

I would go with the TL. If it was last year then I would agree with the G35. The interior in the TL is much nicer than the G35. I would choose the G35 coupe over all of them but thats out of the question. Maxima is just ugly in the front !

So go with the TL, nice interior, 270 horses, 6 speed ! Oh man. The TL also looks better than a G35 sedan and a maxima.

get an altima SE-R if it's around $27k, spend $5k in modifications.

or just get a g35c keep it stock

Maybe you might want to consider the G35 instead of the 04 Max or the TL, it's just like everyone has said, I wouldn't spend over 30k on a FWD Sedan when you can get a RWD one for somewhere close to that price, plus you get more power (coupe) and just as much in the Sedan (especially with the 6spd) and now there's the AWD option for the coupe.

Drop the TL and the Max and go for the G.

The TL I saw on the website at Acura it has a nice interior. I knew what the outside looked like but now with me venturing over there it has a very nice interior better than the Infiniti G35, and with 270 hp, hey thats good enough for me.

I would go with the TL over the Max due to the styling and taste. Additionally you would have the least trouble with quality than with the new Max.

G35 ownz, Even in my latest Motor Trend the G35 wins the test over a TL.
1st Place = G35
3rd - TL

Get the TL. The 6th gen is just too ugly. If you've been thinking and neither of them suit you get the G35 man.

vqman's sport sedan list...

1 - 2004 G35 6 speed
2 - 2004 330i 5 speed
3 - 2004 TL 6 speed
4 - 2003 Maxima SE 6 speed (extra $15,000 would go to custom turbo kit, etc...)
5 - 2003 TL-S (autotragic gives lower score, would be higher if stick)
6 - 2004 Maxima 6 speed

just my 2 pennies

the two in question are in bold...

The altima SE-R was actually looking pretty good at the auto show in NYC. The interior was pretty much the same as the 04' as far as I could tell though, so it's not even close to the Acura in that respect. I sat in the new TL and I honestly liked it a lot. I wouldn't even consider the new maxima, there is nothing special about it IMO. Right now, for me it'd be between the g35c and the TL, and if I was trying to go a little less expensive, I'd wait for the altima SE-R. It's not quite as classy as the others however.

New TLs look better than 6th gen Maximas IMO.

I would get the TL over Maxima but G35 over both. Or you could get slightly used 2k3 Max for cheap and mod the hell out of it

my grandpa just got the TL. I have driven it and it is one nice car. the looks on it remind me of a slightly more agressive new 5series bimmer. i was rather impressed with the handling, especially for FWD and even though he got an AUTO it still has very good pick up.

I am not a huge fan of the 4door g35, so i would def. have to vote for the TL 6speed over that. but if you are considering a g35c then get that. the lines are just too slick and the engine is too nice to argue with.
dont even consider the 04 max, its not even a sport sedan anymore, sadly.
the 330i would be nice, but then i think you will dropping a bit more money and i am not sure if i would pay the extra money when a g35c is availible.

MY list:
G35c
TL 6speed
330i/330ci
TL auto
g35 sedan 6speed
g35X
and way down the line the 04 maxima comes in.

I have driven the acura, and ridden in a g35c. i would take the g35c for a few reasons, but if you are only going for sedans... TL 6speed all the way

I just picked up an Acura TL with Navigation. I didn't go with the G35 because it's lacking in the interior design department.

The TL wasn't $32k, and if I am going to spend that amount of money, I want the view of the car I'm going to see the most, eye appealing and beautiful. That's what the TL gave me that the G35 couldn't.

I can't wait to see how many problems it has, considering the 02+ Altimas had 10-15 recalls.

To be honest I love the way the new gen 6 max looks. And I really dislike the way the new TL looks outside. BUT... Nissan Quality is severely lacking anymore. Went from an Acura dealer to Nissan yesterday and was so turned off by Nissans fit and finish, I said to myself, for the same money as this poorly put together Max, you can get a vastly superior build Acura. Even the lil TSX was far better than max's build.

Again, I do think the new TL is ugly on the outside, but it makes up for it to me on the inside. So well done. I would definately consider it over the new max anyday. This is a sad day for me. I have been a Nissan enthusiast for years. My current Max is my 5th Nissan in a row!

But...you throw G35 6-speed into the equation, which is more fun to toss around and handle...there ya go! And from what I see, it has it's issues of quality/materials also. That instrument panel, dorky analog clock and center stack..barf...Come on Nissan...

I'm sorry, did someone mention the .. TL??

<hehe>

Yeah, the TL 6-spd is the FWD entry-level luxury sport sedan king...

but is that really saying much? There aren't too many that fight for that particular throne...

It's just a unique, kick-*** car for those who are willing to compromise RWD, and compromise spending another $10,000 for a German car...

oh .. here's one for the road:
