Place Racing CAI

I'm soon to buy some type of air intake. I was going to get a WAI, but I love the sound of the Place Racing, but I'm afraid that I will get it water logged because it is a true CAI. Has that ever happened to anyone before? Would it be dangerous to get the Place Racing because of the risk of hydro-locking the engine? Thanks

if your set-up is like mine (4th gen) than dont worry. If it rains or floods too bad then you just unscrew the CAI tubing and place an extra filter to the mid pipe and make a hybrid, 5 minute job. Ive had to do this b4 b/c it flash floods here. People will tell you that its nearly impossible to hydrolock a maxima engine but I always carry an extra filter just incase......

i have the Place racing and it is about 2 feet from the ground(the filter). I have never had any problems with water or anything like that and i have gone through a foot deep puddle coming out of my parking garage. All i do is let of the throttle so it is not sucking as much air in and just coast.

no, i dont have a diagram. the only difference between a short ram (hybrid) intake and a place racing CAI, is that there is an additional tube that runs from the midpipe through the fender and above the splash shield. If it rains or floods you could detatch that CAI tube and put the filter directly to the midpipe to create a short ram or hybrid intake. Really simple to do if you dont feel like risking a blown engine. Its unlikely but possible, my neighbor hydrolocked his.

The chances of the water getting that high are slim to none... but if you really worried about just do what the others have said, or add a bypass valve..like what the Nismo CAI for sentras and such.

What kind of car did your neighbor have, and what type of intake setup?

he has a focus and his CAI is in the same exact place as mine. he still has the car he's just rebuilding the engine now. as far as a bypass valve they have to go before the MAF and there isnt much room for it. It would take some work...

I live in CT and there is a lot of crappy roads around here that are uneven and make puddles. If I were to go through a puddle that was like an inch or 2 deep ar 40-50 mph and the water sprayed and some got into my intake, would this hydrolock the car?

no. it would have to be totally submerged. and depending how low your car is it would be pretty hard. you would have to drive slowley through a DEEP flooded road, flyin through puddles shouldnt hurt anything, especially since we have splash gaurds.......

My car isn't lowered, but my plan for the future is a slight drop w/ 19's.
