So I tried to teach a girl how to drive stick

... she actually wasnt too bad, guess she had practice in manipulating shifter like things with her feet and hands. I used the max although I dont think it was the greatest car to start driving stick in. The clutch throw is really long and the shifter is pretty buttery feeling. I first had her start off in the high/middle school parking lot. Then i took her out on the street on the back roads. She was a little rough on the starts and the 1-2 shifts, but turns she was pretty good at and never stalled on level ground. THen I had her practing the start on a hill, cause that was my most unnevering clutch learning experience when I learned how to drive on my 97 SE. Wound up roasting the tires or stalling.
She didnt grind any gears but at one point she damn near stalled while going up this hill cause she wasnt that good at downshifting. It wasnt as scary as trying to teach someone how to drive period cause its not like she didnt know how to drive. Too bad the stick shift lesson didnt end in a dark parking lot with her practicing on other sticks staring the making of a porno movie with me haha.

i tried to teach the g/f how to drive stick on my GSR. it has an aftermarket clutch which is very grabby, and needless to say she got the car moving once, and stalled about 5 other times
i think i will have her learn on someone elses car

There are some girls that can't drive stick at all. But the ones that can, will be the ones that you want to keep.

the first and only time i ever tried to teach a girl how to drive stick was about 6 years ago in an 87 buick somerset....every time she stalled and the car jerked and hopped, she broke out in hysterical tears because she thought the car was going to blow up

i thank god my girl grew up driving stick on old MG's, makes life a lot easier (no automatics in this family!)

10/10 !

I love girls willing to drive a stick. And that actually learned to drive a stick. Somehow I pay more respect to these girls. I think it`s only because they took the challenge. They went an extra step. To me these girls are the "real stuff".

Girls that actually work on their cars really turn me on

You know how rare of a breed that is? Most/all the girls I know who claim to work on cars sit and watch what their bf or male friends are doing then say they 'worked' on the car. Hmm must be genetics.

It's more like up bringing. My gf has a father that does all his work on his car, built his own house, and is a man's man. This dude is tough. I think that most girls that have a father figure like this are very susceptible to getting their hands dirty.

Personally i love when my gf comes out and helps with the car. I have a extra hand when I really need it. And it's great to have a gf to talk to about cars and big blocks.

it gets pretty wild when i drive a stick, me and my gf go to different dealers and find one that dosent want to go with you on the test drive and then take out a 5spd.

took an A4 out, only second time id driven a stick and managed to lay rubber leaving the parking lot, just so i didnt stall it out right there.

i wonder if ill ever manage to learn to drive one smoothly?

I know a girl that bought a 2000 black SE and burned up her clutch in 3 weeks. $600 later she's not to bad at it.

My wife was dead set against me selling the 96 GLE and buying the I30t, until she realized (just 2 days before I was to pick it up) that it was a 5-speed. After that, she was all for it. Now she borrows it any time she can and drives it when I am out of town on trips and the like.

It was cool that she wanted to learn. I taught her years ago on my 95 Jeep Cehrokee before we were married, but then I got the GLE and she had nothing to practice on. When i got the I30 it was like riding a bike- she picked it right back up. SHe is great on the launch and the 1-2, but the 2-3 gets her sometimes.

why would the 2-3 give her problems? the hardest thing to do is launch for a new driver.... well it was for me atleast.

The "push" just seems counter-intuitive to her. 1-2 and 3-4 are fine She can get it into 5th w/o problems, but under throttle the 2-3 causes her a problem.

She got the launch after a few tries, and on the I30 it was a lot easier than the old Jeep was, so it came easily to her. The 2-3 just seems to catch her- but she is getting better.

I just taught my wife to drive stick in the past 3 weeks and discovered it has alot to do w/ the car. She had a really hard time learning on a 2K Audi 1.8T. Then we started driving the 2001 civic and she picked it up like she had been driving it for years!!

I think its because the civic's gear box is more "clicky" and the engine tells you when it needs more/less gas. The audi was too smooth and quite.
