Here is my dyno comparison of the K&N panel and CAI. Now my K&N panel was dynoed at another place and alot eariler but my timeslips prove the gain. As you can see this $35 CAI provided alot of midrange-toppend power for my car. It even widened the powerband by 200rpm. At the track I gained 2mph in the 1/8, 1.5mph in the 1/4 and dropped 3 tenths. Matter of fact when I was "hot lapping" my car was running consistant 16.8x-16.9's at 80mph, where as my previous best was 17.0 at 79.5. I don't know about you VQ/VE guys but the VG definitly responds better to the CAI . Nothing like paying $35 to gain 11hp at the wheels . If the pic doesn't work click on this link http://www.geocities.com/nismo87se/CAIdyno.jpg

did you use a fan with the dyno.. because their has been question about the dyno of a CAI may not be as accurate because cold air is not being forced in the engine..

Actually.....

The cold air isn't the main reason for the gain in power. The main cause is the lower resonance frequency of the custom CAI. When I mounted my cone filter in my fender it added about 2-2.5ft of tubing which lowered the resonance. Thus on my dyno it appears that around 4000 it start to resonante, which gives me better VE (volumetric effiency). Since my power band is at a lower rpm band than the VE/VQ's, I'm able to see a bigger gain.

Hey Craig, I'm interested in hearing what you know about how resonance ultimately affects engine power. What is the resonator/lower air box used for in the stock intake? What are the effects of removing it or compromising its sealed enclosure, like one would have to do to install the OSCAI?
