Aftermarket stereo installed/AC problem

Hello all --

I just bought a (new to me) 1999 Nissan Maxima that I really love.

It came with a factory stereo, so I bought a nice deck (with XM) and had it installed on Saturday.

Went for a drive to listen to the new toy and the A/C wasn't working as it had been prior to the installation. It was blowing, cool, but not cooooold, which it had been blowing for the week before.

The stereo installer, of course, is saying they did nothing. I'm taking it to the dealer to have it looked at tomorrow.

Anyone have any experience with this? I want to hold the installer's feet to the fire if they are to blame and don't want to be "taken" by the mechanic either way.

Thanks.

Vicki

Thank you Nismos! I'll do exactly that.

Would have done that in the first place if my eyes hadn't skipped that forum, silly me.

Yes, and we had them remove the new unit and re-install the factory unit for ease in dealing with the dealership.

Still no coooooold air.

I'll tell you what it seems like it's doing... it seems like the control is not reaching the level it once was. Cool air is coming out but not cold. When turned to "heat" hot air comes out. I don't know how to describe this clearly. It's almost like it would act if the control was jammed, as if all I have to do is get that lever a little more to the left and it will work.

Not logical, but that's how it's acting.

sounds like one of those weird coincidences of "well it was working before you did...." all of that is controlled electronically so I was thinking the harness behind the dash might not be plugged all thew way etc..etc..

Yes indeed the light does light and I've tried it on recirc and not. It seems to get cooler on recirc.

Thanks for the help :-)

I have the car back and the A/C is back to freezing me out. They said the freon was "a little low" so they "topped it off." No leaks were found.

No charge for the service, which was good (I've only had the car for a week) but it bothers me that the freon was just a little low and the A/C ran that badly. Yikes.

Anyway, all's well that ends well.

Thanks again for the help.
