Where to go for service in Vancouver, BC

I just registered and am looking for advice on where to get my car serviced in Vancouver, British Columbia. I recently had a very unpleasant experience at a local dealership and I ain't going back. I have a 1995 Maxima SE 5 speed with less than 52,000 miles on it. I get it detailed annually and want to keep it in good mechanical condition. The car is stock and I am just learning about some things I can do to enhance its performance. The car obviously is no longer on warranty and I don't feel it is necessary to get it serviced at a dealership as they are a licence to print money. I went in last Friday for service for the first time in 4 years and my car was in the shop for 20 minutes. They changed the oil, lubricated the door hinges and locks, dumped in some fuel and oil additive and $150 Canadian sent me on my way. I could have gone to a luby-loo for half the price. They told me I had 90% tread wear left when my tires have 52,000 miles on them and said I have 85% left on my brakes when four years ago they said I had 80% on the front and 70% on the rear. Basically they double charged me for their time and went on to the next car. There should be a law against that.

Anyone registered from British Columbia who has had a positive maintenance experience?

Thanks
