Anyone have a preference between Texaco and Sunoco? I'm using Sunoco, but Texaco has $.06 off Wednesdays for 93.

Shell 93 most of the time but I put BP/Amoco 93 in the tank occasionally. Whenever I'm out of state (usually NJ or PA), I go for Sunoco Ultra 94 as a little treat for the car. Can't get Ultra 94 in NY anymore.

Ultra 94 in NJ or PA usually ends up being cheaper per gallon than any 93 octane gas in NYC anyway, so I'm not even spending anymore money than I usually would.

Texaco and Shell use the same gas (same company under different names), so I'm sure Texaco's quality is fine. If your not going to Sunoco for the Ultra 94, I don't see any reason not to take advantage of the $.06 discount.

EDIT: My bad, Texaco is the same company as Chevron, not Shell. Always figured Texaco and Shell were together since they share the same credit card. Either way, Chevron is respectable too. I'm still sure Texaco quality is fine.

In the process of switching Petro Canada 89 octane to Chevron 92 octane. Petro Canada has 91 octane, not 92 octane. Historically have run 89 octane, probably 80-90% of the time with absolutely no adverse effects. There are more additives in gas in Canada than the US. Consequently Americans will find their cars run better on Canadian 87 octane than US 87 octane. I suspect the same holds true for 89 octane as well.

I have never had a problem with engine knock on 89 octane and the jury is still out as to whether or not I will run with the 92 all the time. A Nissan service manager told me a few years ago to use 1 tank in 3 of premium to keep the fuel injectors cleaner. I have not been able to have anyone tell me that of late.

I will normally go to Exxon/Mobil 89 or 93 octanes if they are convenient and not more expensive than the others, mainly because of the Speedpass.

However, my last few tanks have been either Chevron 93 or BP 93 octanes. We have two stations (1 Chevron and 1 BP) across the street from each other that are both nearly $.15 cheaper than any the others! I just filled up a few days ago with the highest 93 octane for only $1.96!!! All of the other places in town are still between $2.09 and $2.15 for the 93 octane! I don't question the owners why they are so low - I just happily fill up and go on my way. Who would've thought a year ago or so that I'd feel like I was getting a huge bargain when I found the 93 octane for $1.96 these days?

Exxon, Mobil, Sunoco, Amoco... those are the only ones I fill up at and only using 93 (previously I did the occasional 94 but alas no more in NYC)

Preference, though, goes to Sunoco if possible.

Quiktrip 40%
Chevron 40%
BP/Amoco 20%

These three companies all draw their fuel from the same distribution point here in metro Atlanta, so you are basically getting the same fuel at any of these three stations.

Are there any advantages to that (Sunoco) card? or the Texaco card, or any gas Co. card?

I get 5% off all gas with my AAA Platinum Card.

this isnt a hard question but lets see. ummmm

within the 2 mile radius of my house, these are the gas stations that exist.

4 SHELLS (2 of them barely .5 mile apart)
3 76's (2 of them barely .5 mile apart)
2 Chevron's
2 Mobil's
1 Arco (hope this 1 blows up)
1 no name privately owned

as you can see, within 1.5-2.0 mile radius of my house, i have 13 gas stations to choose from and 4 of them happen to be shell. there is one shell that has the lowest prices for premium out of the 13, thats the one i go to all the time. and its $2.39 for 91 octane (premium) as of today ! yesterday it was $2.45

Is stop and shop the name of the vendor/store? Do you use their card? I would love to save 20 cents.

I failed to mention in my initial post that I went across state lines to get gas. There is a huge disparity in price between gas in IL and gas in IN (anywhere from 10 - 20 cents/gallon). I would fill up in Hammond, IN but their gas is almost the same price as in Chicago (Gotta love the taxes). Therefore, I ducked down to another city in IN that has greater savings. Plus, they have a Mobil, 2 Speedways, an Exxon, a BP within a few miles of each other.

Try FlyingJ truckstop on 80/94 and Grant st. Exit. They have 93octain and you can check prices online. Last time I filled up it was $1.82

I also live in KC and live right by the kansas/missouri state line. often times l can get gas 5-10 cents cheaper in missouri and like VQMAN said its BP for 92 only. however this weekend i was in the ozarks(missouri) and got to fill up with BP 93 i was so excited. it was only 1.89. ironic that i was in a town of 2,500 with 93 octain and KC only gets 92.... i can tell the diff. it revs smoother with 93.

Disregarding the price for once, can anyone provide a breakdown in gas QUALITY from these vendors:

76
BP/Amoco
Chevron
Citgo
Costco
ExxonMobil
Shell
Sunoco
Texaco

I use Citgo but I wish I can use Chevron. There's one Chevron in my city and Citgo has created a monopoly in my area. There is a citgo just about in every block. 93 octane all the way.

Gas America has 94 octane for $1.88 or there abouts... its a no name station I know, but I know a guy in a MR2 Turbo running like 16psi on this gas and his engine hasnt knocked yet. So i figure if its not knocking in that engine, its not gonna knock in mine, and it hasnt yet. Well I am in Indiana for another 2 weeks, but when I get home its back to Chevron... gonna miss the 94 Stupid 91!!!
