Acetone as Fuel Additive?

Hey guys.

I was talking to my friend today and he mentioned how adding about 80-100ml of Acetone into your gas tank before you fill up will help improve mileage. He told me how since he's been using it, he's seen about an 80km increase.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any information on this and is this really safe and would there be any short-term and/or long-term negative effects?

I believe some those off-the-shelf fuel additives have this as a base and from one article I came across, adding this may cause more harm than good. Quoted:

-----
The cleaner's high flammability causes it to burn up long before it can become effective in the combustion chamber. This not only reduces its effectiveness, but also can create additional deposits, compounding the original problem.

The caustic nature of these cleaners can damage the fine electronics, seals and coatings in many of today's injection systems.
-----

Anyone have any information or comments on this?

I would think a fuel system and induction service annually would be more effective and safe.

I use Xylene + Marvel Mystery Oil when I need a higher octane rating (higher than 92)

You can use straight Xylene, however it can be harsh on the rubber seals and such in the engines, hence why you add MMO (or ATF).
