What were his cams designed for? What was the profile of the lobes? Our cams are made for mid-upper rpms, like the MEVI. His maybe are for low-mid rpms and are maybe more aggressive. The JWT ones are pretty mild from what I hear. The idle does change. There is a guy here that has them along with the cattman headers, MATT or something.

the cams sound mean where they are loping. With the maxima and jwt cams, you'll have to raise the idle to 900 rpm to get rid of that sound

Iron Lung down in AZ has cams and headers. There is some video with his car with crazy lope in the idle and no catback, sounding like a serious race car.

The factory cams in the 95-99 VQ have a shorter duration with advanced valve closure and a slight amount of overlap to help promote low-end power. They're not high-end cams at all. If that was the case they'd have a longer duration and a later intake valve closure angle than they do. For top-end, the extremely oversquare design of the engine (3.66in bore x 2.89in stroke) gives a lot of valve area to work with, and that's where the top-end comes from with the MEVI. Not the cams.

Thanks for the accurate information, Stevtec.

Sorry, good ol boys like me have trouble thinking metric.

Cam duration @ 0.050" lift, lift in inches, boring 0.030" over, etc. Metric = no compute.

I'll try to get it right next time.

I wasn't talking about the stock cams. I was talking about the JWT cams. From the dyno that was shown they didn't show any gains til after 4krpm with a bit of low end loss if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah I wasn't sure, that's why I said factory cams.

I've heard that JWT video. Lots of nice idle lope. The LSA is probably a lot smaller (lots more overlap) than the factory setup for sure.

There are only the JWT cams for now. You could of course go somewher to get some custom cams too. Just edit your post instead of posting them one after another within 5 minutes.

The VQ35 cams will also work if you get your cam gears machined to fit them.
