I've had mine about 3/4" past 220 kmh - say 230 - 235 kmh or 143 - 146 mph.

127 on wet roads? especially if on stock tires? I think we have a darwin award winner. This guy is going to naturally select himself out of existance.

Posting in the 5th gen forum might get a better answer anyways.

The only time a Maxima would be safe at even 127 is on a straight road, no other traffic, and with rubber that is scrubbed-in at 5k miles or so. I took my 4th gen to 125 when it was new, and that was just plain silly, the car was very floaty. Just doesn't have the brakes/suspension to do those kinds of speeds. Take a E46 323i up to 120 and you will see what I mean--that car feels underpowered for the chassis and feels like it could do 35 mph more if it had the motor. Opposite of the Maxima.

^^^ Couldnt agree more. Even on the highways, i shut her down at 90 usually. I never take the chance. On a long road trip to the track though, i hit 115 a couple times, on a LONG stretch of clear traffic, but for a short period of time. Car is so unstable on stock suspension and tires.

I've hit 125mph in a 2nd gen max. On wet roads. But it was down hill on a windy day.

The highest that i have gone was 138mph but never on wet roads. That's just asking for death to carry you away.

Prove it. I don't see how a bone stock max could make it that far. 141 or 142 maybe but not that high. The speedo isn't accurate after the index. The best way is to get an OBD-II reader and record it. That way you don't kill yourself looking at the damn speedo the whole way and its more accurate, especially past 140.

You've heard enough about how dumb you are for going fast in wet conditions. As for me, i've hit 138....in my Auto!(235's also) With my 5Spd done I think 144 is attainable. It went 135 stock and I've got the ticket to prove it.

My car is a 5-speed which is 100+ pounds lighter than an automatic. I was at elevation, above 5,000 feet, coming down hill on to a long straightaway 40 miles from anywhere on the Coquihalla Highway in the Interior of British Columbia. When I bought my car Road & Track said the top speed was 143 mph. I also read an article when I had my car on order. It was about various cars that could transport 4 people at over 140 mph. The Maxima was one of them as was the Mazda Millenia with the Miller cycle engine. I believe I did a good job of breaking my engine in by varying the speed. I don't drive it hard and probably haven't had it over 115 mph since the top-speed run about seven years ago. I don't know if the thin air makes a difference. Maybe I just have a good car!

can the grannies in here stop bashing people....just because you dont drive yours over 90mph doesnt mean the other folks here shouldnt. if the road is straight, nice asphalt and no traffic there is no reason why not go faster. 127 on semi-wet is fine, if highway was straight with no places for water to collect. i had my 2k2 auto at 145 mph on nice, sunny day on I-95 near NC-VA border. below is the picture i took at lower speed cause i had to hold the dig camera with other hand. yes, maximas are floaty at those speeds and thats why i ONLY DO IT when there are no other cars around me and when road is straight for a good mile in daylight, of course. people on autobahn drive like this every day (in opel kadetts, asconas, omegas, diesel benz and other lower HP cars). only in america everybody is paranoid about going too fast. the problem is not the car, but the drivers. thats the reason US has higher traffic mortality than germany.

I believe that it's mostly the driver that causes the accidents. The driver usually exceeds both the safe speed for conditions and the capabilty of their skills and vehicle handling limits. 127 on wet pavement would not be considered safe for reasonable and prudent people. I don't think we are paranoid enough in this country due to the frequency of high speed wrecks that occur on a regular basis. In closing, I would say that I'm not bashing just offering free advice and opinions.
